CALL for ENTRIES: Bring us Your Dead

Learn more about the Bring us your Dead exhibit from Las Laguna Gallery!shared TREATS

My Aunt Maggie B. loved marzipan. We would attempt to craft our own from honey, powdered sugar and finely ground almonds & foregoing the additional almond extract.  The year I spent with her trying to form our Play-Doh-like lumps into little fruit and vegetable shapes taught me that food color can be derived from real food, not just a jar, that gold and silver are edible in small amounts, and that treats well-labored taste better.  I celebrate the making & eating of every marzipan fruit with my great aunt Mag (RIP, 1922-2005).  This Call is a chance for you to celebrate life with someone who has already passed.  Take a look…

I see a lot of theatre performances while hangry –grouchy from a lack of food!  Showtimes frequently hover around dinner time, and unless I want to eat an early bird meal, I usually wait until afterwards.  It makes me grouchy, so my hubby force feeds wine & cheese before hand out of self preservation, ha.  This next Call is from a theatre that offers a full meal (and gallery space) at the theatre.  Genius…

That moment when someone unexpectedly walks in the kitchen while you’re cramming the last of the chocolate chips in your mouth like Lucille Ball in a chocolate factory… simply common place at my house.  Insert raspberries or pickled beets into that sentence, and it has my name written all over it.  I’m constantly being caught red-handed.  Luckily for me, this next Call is for all of my red-handed compatriots–in & out of foodie-landTake a look…

Why RED?  Red is the warmest and most striking of all colors. Red is the color most chosen by extroverts and one of the top picks of males. Red can mean love, lust, anger, temper, fiery heat and warmth. Red can symbolize danger. In China, red is the color of prosperity and joy where brides wear red and front doors are often painted red. Red is Tuesday’s color. Red roses symbolize passionate love. Red is the color of Mars. Red is the color of blood with strong symbolism as life and vitality. And we believe artists who work in RED understand the power of creating art within shades of red.  Here’s hoping to catch you RedHanded! –from the prospectus

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists

MEDIA:  Each piece must be created in 50% PLUS shades of red.  All works are square in finished orientation, 20”x20” being the largest accepted size.

CALL for ENTRIES: Man’s Best Friend

Enter the Featured Artist Contest today!one POTATO

My Dad always loved to munch on raw potatoes when prepping them for some portion of a meal.  No joking.  Honestly, the only other being I know that loves raw potatoes is my dog Pepper.  She loves them almost as much as cabbage and carrots.  Her ultimate favorite was white grapes; then I learned they could lead to renal failure. (Apparently not many of you knew that either since no one responded when I wrote this post.)  So, veggies it is, potatoes included.  This next Call doesn’t necessarily want to know so much about what you feed them as much as your love for them.  Take a look…

equal six

I used to be addicted to “snack size,” pre-portioned foods.  I thought they were the perfect solution to my portioning problem.  However, I learned that the innocent little packages led me to eating multiples.  Plus, the extra packaging and cost don’t sit well either.  So, I’m back to counting cheese puffs and Fritos® again.  Let’s hope the small size of the artwork for the next Call creates a feed frenzy too.  Check it out…

Check out this Call for Entries from Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center (Solomons, MD) for Small Works. This show also allows you to be associated with a fundraiser without having to sacrifice your artwork or your portion of the sales price.
