I don’t eat turkey on holidays.  I’ve never liked the pressure of culinary conformity, or any other kind for that matter.  I usually have ham or duck.  Interestingly enough, I cooked a turkey the week before Thanksgiving this year because they were on sale.  But, all of the stories of people burning their houses down while attempting to deep fry their turkey don’t make me want to try that method.  I realize those stories are exaggerated to almost urban legend status, but I am simply not enticed.  I AM enticed by this next Call focused on  urban legends though…

Folklore and catchphrases.

People have been distilling concepts, culture, and codes of conduct into easily digestible and communicable portions since the dawn of civilization.  Whether they are insidious or inspirational, what are the stories and sayings that pervade our lives and influence our perspective?  How can they inform contemporary art making?

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists

MEDIA:  All 2-D and 3-D work considered.

DEADLINE:  December 18, 2013

NOTIFICATION:  December 21, 2013

ENTRY FEE:  $20 up to 3, $5 ea add’l

AWARDS:  Accepted entries for this exhibition will be judged again during the course of the exhibition, and cash prizes for Best of Show, 2nd Place, Third Place and Honorable Mention will be announced.

SALES:  Gallery sales commission is 30% of the retail price named by the artist.
