Testimonials and recommendations are great, but my taste buds choose for themselves. As a welcomed side-result of writing these posts, I receive a significant amount of unsolicitied recommendations for brands of food that are meant to change my mind about tofu, kale & collard greens. And, I diligently try most to of the suggests, just in case. On occasion I muse to myself, “that wasn’t half bad”, (never about tofu though), but the important thing for me is to not get stuck in a rut or trust a single encounter as the definitive one. Did you know that I avoided asparagus for 20 years because of my experiences with the canned variety as a child. I missed 20 years of green tree goodness. Never again. So, send me your food suggestions, and I’ll send you my art experience suggestions. Here’s one now.

Yesterday, I offered a Call that chose random winners for supplies in a specific media, but today I offer a Call with a juried winner of cash open to wide array of media. More accurately, this is a purchase award of sorts. You do not have to submit the work that will be exchanged for the $1000 –that can be negotiated later. They even pay shipping costs to get the work to them. I’ve been touting this opportunity for years, so there is a long, RESEARCHABLE history of winners. Draw your own conclusions about their taste, but it is worthy of consideration.

I am melon obsessed lately. Watermelon & canteloupe are around $.50/lb. or less, and I can’t seem to get enough. I’m having them for on the side of oatmeal at breakfast, with cottage cheese & salads at lunch, and they’ve even become dessert stand-ins. JUROR: Brinda Kumar, is an Assistant Curator in the department of Modern & Contemporary Art at The Met. She worked on Nasreen Mohamedi (2016), one of the inaugural exhibitions at The Met Breuer, was part of the team working on the exhibition Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible (2016), and is a co‐curator of the exhibition Like Life: Sculpture, Color, and the Body (2018). She completed her BFA at the College of Art, New Delhi; MA at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; and received her PhD from Cornell University.

AWARDS: Gold $1000 Purchase Award, Silver $250 & eight $100 Certificates of Recognition.

SALES: All work submitted must be for sale at $499 or less. One bonus work chosen by the artist will be accepted from artists with work juried into the show. These smaller works will be priced at $399 or less. BWAC will retain a 30% commission on all exhibition sales.

If you are an apartment or city dweller, it is exciting to trip across another fruit or veg that can grown in a container. A friend from Atlanta recently sent me pics of the grapevine she is growing in a container on her balcony. Potted grapes, seriously. The grapes aren’t miniature; it can just be grown a miniature scale. She claims it is going to produce fruit in its first year too! Because I am self-employed, my food budget fluctuates from week to week. I have learned how to make a casserole out of random refrigerator & freezer finds. I have learned to keep affordable staples like rice & potatoes, sauces like salsa verde & marinara, vegetables like cabbage & carrots, and proteins like chickpeas & canned salmon. I can serve a fantastic dinner for 4 for under $8 in a pinch. She received her MA, Art History at Hunter College, CUNY & BFA, Studio Art & BS, Psychology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.

FREE Resources.

Over the past seven years Art&ArtDeadlines.com has evolved. If you haven’t been with us from the beginning, just assume we’ve always been this fabulous. But if you’ve been reading for 5+ years, well, we’re happy to have had a witness to the transformation. The fundamental change from rambling, long posts to shorter posts in standard formatting came somewhere around year two, followed quickly by changes to color and imagery. Last year the branding got more consistent, and the pics grew in size.

Even my taste in food has changed over time.

This year we have begun to follow through on the art portion of Art&ArtDeadlines.com with the #artistoftheday posts, but we still have a lot of work to do. And the next step is offering additional resources for professional development like grants, purchase awards and residencies –maybe even a guest post or two.

If you want to help, we welcome your suggestions, need your re-posts & shares. What do YOU need? On a more personal note, I would welcome your feedback & support. Seven years is a long time to post opportunities, and the payoffs have been huge on a personal level. The artists and jurors and gallerists that I have have come to know and love and count amongst my friends and peers remains the biggest and most unexpected gift. Thank you.
