CALL for ENTRIES: Dogwood Regional 2018

Learn more about the Dogwood Arts Regional exhibition!

sprouts of SPRING

Green onions are among the first shoots sent up in Spring.   They taste like the more refined cousin of wild onions whose smell I associate with fresh-cut grass.  The greens are only fresh for a few days, but the bulbs protect themselves by turning outer layers into a husk-like spring jacket.  The green, slightly bitter bite they offer quiche is high on my list of favorite flavors.  This next Call is also one of my favorites of Spring.   Take a look…

childhood FAVORITES.

I spent part of this weekend in a Virginia State Park.  Every year the park lights their train tunnel and serves hot chocolate & s’mores while musicians echo familiar carols in the background.  As the temperature dropped to the mid-thirties, I made my way to concessions & was handed a steaming paper cup with a plastic spoon to stir my powdered mix.  After my first sugary sip, I was transported to my childhood, as if by time machine, complete with melted marshmallow mustache.  Thanks to Natural Tunnel State Park for the trip. ♥  This next Call wants your vision of the passage of time.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: Raw

Learn more about Raw The Exhibition from IU Kokomo Art Gallery!

raw FOOD

In a world where so many people are vegetarian or vegan, steak tartar was once the most controversial food conversations one could have.  Now we have so many more choices of things with which to disagree.  If we just stick to raw foods, there are still subgroups like fruitarians, juicearians, or sproutarians which cause heads to metaphorically explode.  The bottom line is that people have the right to determine what goes into their bodies, and what we choose to eat says something about who we are.  We are what we eat, right?  This next Call wants to know the raw truth about you through your work.  This one is personal…

Check out this Call for Entries from IU Kokomo Art Gallery (Kokomo, IN) for Raw: The Exhibition.  There is no entry fee, the media is wide open & the commission rate is low.  If you’re willing to let it hang out, this could be a great opportunity…

I have never been a big fan of rice. As a child, I only experienced rice as white, short grain & topped with copious amounts of brown gravy.  When put up against the family of starches, including potatoes and pasta, rice has always paled in comparison.  But lately, I have a newfound respect for the subtleties.  Available in a rainbow of hues, this delicate grain makes the best of additions from tomatoes & cumin to mango & orange juice.  Rice has emerged as one of my favorites.  This next Call seeks emerging artists.  Are you emerging?
