ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists 18+ residing within a 500 mile radius of Knoxville, TN (as the crow flies–a straight line). This will help calculate if you’re inside the radius

MEDIA: 2-D painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking & photography; 3-D sculpture of all media & installation.

DEADLINE: March 3, 2017

NOTIFICATION:  March 31, 2017

ENTRY FEE: $35 for up to 3

JUROR: Leslie Noell is an artist, designer, and educator who currently works at Penland School of Crafts as director of programs. She earned a degree in graphic design from NC State University College of Design and an MFA in artisanry from the University of Massachusetts. Leslie studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague & spent 2 years as a core fellowship student at Penland School of Crafts.  Her work has been shown throughout the U.S.

AWARDS: Cash awards totaling $3,500 will be presented at the exhibit’s Opening Reception –Best in Show, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, 3 Merit awards & an award from Fast Frame.

SALES: Dogwood retains a 40% commission on all sales. Please price your work accordingly.

I’ve been enjoying a Summer of barbeque–tomato-based, mostly, with a dry rub here and there.  But, I kind of miss the mustard-based BBQ of South Carolina.  And on the even more rare occasion, my thoughts turn to vinegar-based BBQ of North Carolina.  It is a lighter, tangy taste than the heavy, pass-the-antacid variety common to most of the South.  If you go to the opening for this next Call in NC, be sure to try it.  Take a look…

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists residing in the US

MEDIA:  Either functional or nonfunctional original works in clay

DEADLINE:  August 25, 2013

NOTIFICATION:  September 2, 2013

ENTRY FEE:  $35 for 1-2 entries for non-members or $30 for 1-2 entries for members

JUROR:  Leah Leitson received her MFA in ceramics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and her undergraduate BFA in ceramics from New York State College of Ceramics.  Leitson is a member of the Piedmont Craftsmen, Inc., and the Southern Highland Craft Guild.  She teaches workshops throughout the United States including Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and the Arrowmont School of Crafts in Tennessee.

Leah works exclusively in porcelain; her work is inspired by 18th and 19th century decorative arts, particularly utilitarian silver tableware and Sevres porcelain. She is also inspired by plant forms in nature, and tries to integrate the two so that they become one. Her work has been featured in national and int’l exhibits, and is collected by museums and private collectors.

AWARDS:  Best of Show $500; 1st Place Functional $175; 1st Place Non-Functional $175; 2nd Place Functional$150; 2nd Place Non-Functional $150; 3rd Place Functional $100; and 3rd Place Non-Functional $100.

SALES:  Cape Fear Studios will retain a 30% commission on all works sold. All work must be for sale.
