CALL for ENTRIES: Table Testaments

Learn more about the Table Testaments exhibits from the Arts Benicia Gallery!

SOUPER bowls

I plead guilty to taking my eating utensils and dishes for granted.  Because of my love for the art of plating food, I’ve always owned solid white functional dishware.  My mother is a “collector” of flatware and hasn’t allowed me to pick my own, EVER.  It is bestowed upon me on occasion without request or explanation.  We all have our burdens, ha.

Now I am married to a commercial production potter (120+ pots a day & NOT pictured here), and suddenly the world of dishware is my oyster.  Did you know you need differently sized and shaped bowls for salad, cereal & pasta? As I said, we all have our burdens, ha.  I love eating out of the bowls my husband has thrown.  Every once in a while he comes home with a “one off” just for me because he thought it looked like it was “meant for me”.  *swoon*  I’ve been trying to convince him to enter this show because I love this venue.  It isn’t restricted to a literal interpretation, so be sure to investigate this opportunity.

Check out this Call for Entries from Arts Benicia (Benicia, CA) for Table Testaments.  $45 Entry & 40% commission. Take a closer look at this community-based non-profit…

I collect food-specific dishes.  Weird, I know.  I have ceramic turtles for wasabi, three-legged lava rock bowls for salsa, futuristic pods for olives, individual berry bowls, and there will be more.  (Maybe these egg cups).  Always the proper tool for the job, you could say.  This next Call is really ALL about the collectors.  See if this one is right for you…

Here’s an interesting Call for Entries from the Sylvia White Gallery in Ventura, California for the 2013 Collectors’ Choice.  I am intrigued, this is a great opportunity for a few of you, but the challenge is in figuring out if YOUR work is something this anonymous group of collectors want.  Investigate for your self…

Editor’s Note:  My assumption is these are collectors that purchase work in the Sylvia White Gallery.  Because they are anonymous, the best recommendation I have for research is to spend some time investigate the artists the gallery represents, since in theory, it is their work these collectors are purchasing–at least in part.

SUCCESS

Like many of you, I frequently “wing it” in the kitchen. I like the idea of cooking with whatever you have on hand and making adjustments according to taste along the way. However, while editing a recipe for a friend recently, I realized there is a certain comfort in knowing the exact amount of salt to put in the potatoes.  There is comfort in not guessing the temperature or constantly checking the oven to see if your famous apple pie is ready. Take comfort in the fact that this Call is a well-established show with lots of room for research. Time to create your own recipe…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Axis Gallery in Sacramento, CA for their 7th Annual National Juried Competition! The entry fee is only $30, and the juror is well-documented so you can do your homework (#4 FYI) BEFORE you submit work!

CALL for SUBMISSIONS: Solo in the Adirondacks

Click to Subscribe to www.ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!HOT TODDY!

My non-art related work place is The Lodge at Buckberry Creek, a resort in the Great Smoky Mountains patterned after the Great Camps of the Adirondacks in upstate New York. The Lodge is a 4-Diamond resort and home to the only fine dining in Gatlinburg. So for me, the idea of the Adirondacks conjures images of hand-oiled leather couches, animal hide rugs, wood-burning fires and warm mulled cider. Thanks to this annual call, it also reminds me of phenomenal art opportunities as well!  The holidays are in the air…

Seafood?

I long to live off the grid, both for the consumption of energy resources AND for culinary purposes.  I am not the greenest or environmentally conscious person that ever lived.  My family and I do what we can.  But, we long to live off the grid via solar power, cistern water collection and home-grown food.  We want a life free of debt for electricity, water and groceries.  I haven’t figured out how to tackle the seafood and cell phone issue, but I stand in awe of at least the idea of depending solely on nature for survival. This next call invites you to celebrate the wonder of nature.  Great opportunity for a California show!

NUTS for
LOBSTER

When I think of Georgia, I start craving lobster bisque.  Yes, I know that Georgia is the Peach State, but as I have mentioned before… I have peach issues.  Georgia conjures images of trips to Savannah with my mother for glorious lunches at the River House of Caesar salad made fresh at our table, rich and creamy lobster bisque, and a huge slice of pecan pies.  You can’t touch that with peaches.  So this next Call is over 250 miles from Savannah, but it is still Georgia.  If you can’t find the bisque while at the opening, pecan pie can’t be far away…

SALTY BUT SWEET

I grew up with a single father from age 3 to 13, and it was a culinary adventure.  One of my fondest memories is of weekend-long motorcycle trips when I was around 8.  We’d climb on and hit the road.  I would freeze in the morning early-morning air.  My father’s solution?  We’d stop at every other golden arches we could find for french fries and hot fudge sundaes.  This next Call is a whole different way to celebrate two-wheeled freedom.
