Artist Series Wine Label Contest

We are looking for a spectacular wine label to adorn our equally spectacular wine and invite you to create it. The winning artist will see their masterpiece featured on an exclusive, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon served in every Capital Grille restaurant, and will receive a case of this exceptional wine, an all-expense-paid excursion to Napa Valley and, of course, artistic immortality.

ELIGIBILITY: US residents, 21+ years old

MEDIA: Any media appropriate for translation as a wine label. For example, painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, etc.

DEADLINE: Postmarked no later than October 15, 2012, and received by October 19, 2012.

NOTIFICATION: For names of winners, send a self-addressed stamped envelope for receipt by November 1, 2012, to: The Capital Grille Art Competition, 1000 Darden Center Drive, Orlando, FL, 32837. I know, I know. But be patient since art isn’t their normal business.

ENTRY FEE: None

JUROR: Artwork must be original and cannot have been previously published or submitted in any other competition. Judging will be based on creativity & originality in relation to its potential placement on a wine bottle. Judging will be conducted by a jury in conjunction with, and under the supervision of, The Capital Grille. The decision of the judges is final and binding in all matters relating to the contest.

AWARDS: A 4-day/3-night trip for the winner and one guest to California. Trip includes round trip coach air transportation to and from a major airport nearest the winner’s home, standard double occupancy hotel accommodations for three nights, the opportunity to tour select Napa Valley wineries and participate in wine tastings, select activities, meals and beverages (as determined by Sponsor) and ground transportation to and from airport in California and to and from each winery. Louis Singh says, “St Ives in the 1970s was a somewhat lazier place than today. Late morning deals were customarily made with cigarette in one hand and glass of sherry in the other. Back then my father had the Wills Lane gallery which ensured my mind was constantly flooded with images of the St Ives School as soon as my eyes had opened.

“When I was ten my parents opened the Beaux Arts gallery in Bath which continued to nurture these Cornish roots. These days with a sister gallery in London, minus the sherry, not much has changed. I busy myself by keeping the gallery from growing old by steering some youth and raw contemporary talent, towards its doors.”

AWARDS: Grand Prize Award £1,000 Cash Prize & £1,000 worth of Materials and Services.

I dislike overhead lighting, except in the kitchen. Much of my home is dimly lit; I prefer soft lamp lighting. But, my art studio and my kitchen are the exceptions. I’ve injured myself with everything from an Xacto knife to myriad of small and large chef knives. Lessons learned. Shadows are not the best place to create fine art or fine food. This is the 21st annual competition for gallery exhibition and awards. This exhibition is devoted to the discovery, introduction and promotion of emerging artists.

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all artists, national and international.

MEDIA: All media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 96″ no wider than 120″. Sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36″wide entry door.

DEADLINE: November 30, 2012

NOTIFICATION: No later than December 30, 2012 by email.

AWARDS: There will be a $1000 cash prize awarded to one artist. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #20, Fall 2013 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Direct Art is distributed to bookstores across the USA including Borders and Barnes and Noble. ENTRY FEES: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital files, prints or 35mm slides. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four.
