"Migration", a site-specific installation of concrete life-cast leaves, by Elizabeth White
“Migration”, a site-specific installation of concrete life-cast leaves, by Elizabeth White

“In view of the current economic disasters, political conditions, military actions & climate or earth changes I see immigration as the new normal.  What may be them today is us tomorrow.” — Elizabeth White

Many people spend a lifetime without ever having to consider the need to emigrate from their homeland.  Many others spend their lives learning what it means to always be an immigrant, never feeling quite at home.  And then there are others, never quite at home regardless of where they are.  When I saw the “Migration” installation by today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Elizabeth White, I marveled at the simple symbolism of leaves separated from their roots.  It is precisely how many of us feel, like leaves strewn about, seemingly at random.  Disconnected.

My grandmother loved fairy food.  She would boil sugar and vinegar together for what felt like forever (15 minutes) and then add baking soda at the last minute.  Magically, it seemed, the concoction would turn almost orange.  Once cooled, it had this beautifully buttery flavor.  Sugar + vinegar = fairy food.  Try it.  In the meantime, this next Call is all about the fairies.  Maybe a fairy kitchen?  This one is creative fun…

I miss fish.  I live in a land-locked state; therefore saltwater fish are expensive if you can even find it fresh.  I love the abundant mountain trout, but a simple grilled flounder or grouper is just a dream.  If you can find no other reason to visit Florida, let me recommend the fish –and this next callTake a look at this one…

Peace DOES have a flavor.  In my house the flavor of peace is macaroni and cheese for my kid with eggs benedict for me and occasional pumpkin pancakes to seal the deal for my husband.  We all have a price, and food is always the answer in my house. THAT explains why the sizes in my closet range a 5 size span, ha.  This next Call is peaceful or full of peace or built on peace.  I could write puns for another few lines, but I digress.  Take a look for yourself…
