and a cake too!

I have a milestone birthday on the horizon, and I am curious whether my cake will be a reflection of my obsession with food, art or shoes (assuming my wonderful husband thinks to get me a cake).   My shoe obsession is widely known (and often ridiculed) locally, but only time will tell about whether it will show up as a cake theme.  Check out this Jimmy Choo Cake from Truly Scrumptious. more eating

There is a point at which loving food turns into a food obsession. I am self-aware enough to know that I have long passed that point.  I cannot simply EAT anything.   Eating requires dissection and discussion before digestion.  Dinner is often cold by the time it is eaten fully.  Likewise, I meet emerging artists simply obsessed with conquering their first solo show.  This next call will require your own dissection and discussion before digestion. Bon appetite…

I miss mustard-based barbeque.  I moved to Tennessee form South Carolina.  And, although my new home has some unbelievable barbeque, I have to admit that I still miss a little mustard based pork now and then.  I am tempted to submit to this next call just to have an excuse to pick up a little pork of the yellow variety.  How about you?

OPEN CALL: Natural/Constructed Spaces

Click to Subscribe to www.ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!JELL-OH-NO!

I am currently going through what my husband has dubbed the “Super Suzie” phase.  It has a name because every time I take a few weeks off from working outside of my home office, I take on this Super-Woman-like persona that cooks and cleans and nests.  It doesn’t last long because I’m not particularly good at it.  Occasionally, it spins out of control and results in molded gelatin “delicacies”.  This next Call might be better way to for me (and you) to express our Natural vs. Constructed theories.  Trust me on this one…

Check out this Open Call from The Painting Center (NY, NY) for Natural/Constructed Spaces.  This is a reasonable fee for a Chelsea exhibition opportunity because I know some of you are still searching for the elusive New York Show.  Take a look…

The Painting Center, a gallery in the heart of Chelsea, announces a call for entries for its upcoming juried exhibition entitled Natural/Constructed Spaces, running from June 19th to July 14th, 2012. The exhibit will be accompanied by a printed catalog and will be widely publicized.

As artists, we are all compelled to create and look at images of the natural and man made worlds in which we live.  Through these images we are able to express nostalgia for a simpler, more pristine world, bring attention to environmental degradation, or ponder the wonders and despair of today’s urban centers.

For Natural/Constructed Spaces, The Painting Center invites representational and abstract painters to submit work that considers all aspects– natural, constructed, deconstructed– of rural/urban/suburban environments in the 21st century.

…not EAT

Boredom is cause for eating at my desk, in my car or on my couch.  I’m not saying that it is healthy behavior, but it is, in fact, MY behavior.  I suppose if my Jeep came equipped with a fridge so that I could munch on carrot stick, yogurt and other healthy goodies, it might be less of a problem.  However, I would settle for less boredom in the car.  This next call offers motorists a better view and you a possible adventure.  Take a look…

Check out this Open Call from the New York City Department of Transportation’s Urban Art program for their Barrier Beautification opportunity.  I know some of you are thinking “I don’t live in NYC.”  Well, you don’t have to, and it would pay for you to remember that you are a citizen of the world…not just your hometown.  At least take the time to investigate…

I am not fond of food buffets, generally speaking.  I can’t ever get past the image of myself as a cow being herded along a trough.  Then there is the germy thing.  But, I have been proven wrong on occasion.  The buffet, as a concept, I appreciate though.  Think of art venues as a buffet of options; they come in every shape and size in both the most conventional and the least likely locations.  This next call gives you an opportunity to try something new.  Investigate the menu…
