I’ve been studying food preservation, from pickling & water-bath canning to vacuum-sealing & salt-packing.  I’ve run across a huge amount of admirable testing, experimentation and success amongst food-enthusiasts, homemakers, homesteaders, preppers & gardners alike.  I am open to almost anything culinary at least once, but some folks are out there just purposely trying to make food, well, wrong.  Koolickles.  I am almost beyond words this time.  Koolickles are created by soaking dill pickles in a mixture of Kool-Aid® & pickle brine.  Being open doesn’t always work in my favor, but this next Call definitely does.  They are open to almost anything, and it doesn’t have to be Koolickles, I promise…

I used to receive food in the mail.  In the past, my out-of-state relatives would send me those meat and cheese boxes.  You know the ones–processed cheese, Summer sausage, red and white checked box. But, I have convinced them to stop with the weird boxes of food and to start sending me personal hand-written recipes.  I haven’t made all of the recipes, but I am more fascinated with them as art than food.  This next Call could be your opportunity to mail food, of sorts.  Or maybe NOT food…

If I had to choose one food to represent me as a person, I would possibly die of indecision. I am addicted to No Pudge Fudge brownie mix.  I’ve mentioned it before, I know.  They are the best brownies I’ve ever eaten (from a mix), and they are all natural.  It is the shortest ingredient list ever.  I’ve tried the original, raspberry and cappuccino, but I still haven’t tried the mint because I have to order them and have them shipped to me.  Food by mail isn’t usually my thing, but I may give in eventually.  However, in this next Call, no shipping is a HUGE advantage in my book.  Check it out…

The Biennial Project is pleased to announce an open call to artists worldwide for THE ART VENICE BIENNALE 2013 – an online juried competition and digital presentation.

The potential for exposure is enormous plus you get to impress your friends with an invitation to one of the most sought after and most fun events at the Venice Biennale 55.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists

MEDIA:  Open to all media that can be represented digitally in photograph.

DEADLINE:  12pm EST May 1, 2013

The best part of hitting the open road is, of course, the FOOD.  My practice is to spend a little time surveying the locals of where we are about the best place to eat.  Inevitably, I get a significant number of people that refer me to the same place.  And it always ends up being “the best breakfast” or “the best burger” in town.  Getting eggs right isn’t easy, folks, and I always appreciate a good reference.  This next Call is all about hitting the road.  Investigate for yourself…
