Why does beer come in six packs?  My house is dotted with six packs.  It isn’t like THAT.  I am NOT a beer drinker, but my husband IS a beer brewer.  My son’s room would be far less cluttered if beer were more efficiently packaged.  Did I forget to mention that my husband stores his beer under my 12-year-old’s bed? Okay, I am going to stop before this sounds even worse.  This call is a much better use of things that come in sixes.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries for Six, an all-hung exhibit sponsored by Robin Willow Elements, at Red Z Gallery in Mt. Vernon, OH.  The size restrictions make shipping easy, and the entry fee is realy low.  Don’t miss this opportunity…

Music (and dessert) are the cherry on the proverbial sundae at any meal.  I have had the privilege of enjoying everything from a jug band at a pig pickin’ to authentic mariachi while eating tamales on a recent trip to Cozumel.  But my favorite dinner music is the humming of my lactose-intolerant 12 year old when he delights in his favorite cheesy indulgence…pizza.  This next call wants to hear about the music that delights you.  Get to humming…

GINGERBREAD HOUSES

I am too lazy to build a gingerbread house from scratch.  I find it far more entertaining to buy a kit and then malign it with creativity, often inedible.  Yep, I also latch hook horns onto puppies and add glitter to my Van Gogh paint-by-number masterpieces.  Kits don’t have to be restrictive; I find them inspirational. This next Call wants you to be inspired by 2.5 pounds of mystery materials.  Take a look…

My non-art related work place is The Lodge at Buckberry Creek, a resort in the Great Smoky Mountains patterned after the Great Camps of the Adirondacks in upstate New York. The Lodge is a 4-Diamond resort and home to the only fine dining in Gatlinburg. So for me, the idea of the Adirondacks conjures images of hand-oiled leather couches, animal hide rugs, wood-burning fires and warm mulled cider. Thanks to this annual call, it also reminds me of phenomenal art opportunities as well!  The holidays are in the air…

Farm fresh eggs make me happy the same way daisies make others smile.  The only thing close to farm fresh is a Grade AA (found in upscale restaurants and better grocery stores).  Most of us eat Grade A eggs from the grocery store with flatish, lemony-yellow yolks, but a fresh egg typically has a bright golden yolk that stands tall when cracked.  Years ago, when my husband owned a hot dog shop called the Dog & Cow, he used to trade left over hot dogs (used as chicken feed) for fresh eggs.  The eggs had the wonderful aroma of garlic from gourmet hot dogs.  We KNEW what we were eating, ha.  The gallery in this Call also makes me happy with it’s sort of blatant in-your-face optimism and simplicity.  Take a look…

STICKY SWEET

When I think of salt water taffy, I think of the mountains. Odd, eh? I suspect that salt water taffy got its start on seaside boardwalks, but it seems every small mountain town has a great little store front that lets you watch taffy being made. I know that here in Gatlinburg, there is more than one. I wonder if Blue Ridge, GA (home of this Call) has a taffy shop. Sounds like a great reason to attend the reception…
