Culligan has worked at the University of Kentucky Art Museum; The Cleveland Museum of Art; The National Gallery of Art (summer intern); & The Delaware Art Museum. For the past 14 years, Culligan has been the Senior Curator at the Huntington Museum of Art, Huntington, WV.

It is characterized by local, fresh ingredients and foods low in saturated fats and high in fresh vegetables and fruits with lean meats and seafood from the California coast with special attention paid to presentation–delicious & beautiful. But why leave out the butter? And, if it is from local, grass-fed cows, even better. Can’t we just learn to play well with others? Today I spied organic alphabet soup in the grocery store. There is some humor to be found in the idea that someone invested in eating organically would also want a food so tortured & processed that it can spell out words. And, I don’t believe anyone is REALLY teaching their children to read with soup. So do we really need to communicate with food, literally, or am I just a huge hypocrite for constantly preach about the transformative & communicative power of food? Okay, I’m a hypocrite, ha. JUROR: Monika Szewczyk divides her time between writing, editing, curating and teaching. From 2008 to 2012, she was head of publications at the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam.

Szewczyk was on the curatorial team of the Vancouver Art Gallery and coordinated programming at the Belkin Satellite, a space of the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery at the University of British Columbia. She is Visual Arts Program Curator at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago.

JURORS: William Butcher has taught painting and sculpture for thirty years and is currently head of the Art Department at Suffield Academy in CT. His work has received numerous top awards including several solo exhibitions throughout the Eastern and Midwest United States. Butcher is a master at portraying emotional and spiritual content as visual compositions. In his paintings he explores space, light and subject matter as metaphors in a dialog.

Claudia Seymour is a masterful still life painter in oil and pastel. She is a member of prestigious organizations such as Allied Artist of America, CT Pastel Society, and Audobon Artists. Claudia is an experienced juror and an active member of the art community. She has served as president of the Salmagundi Club in New York City for the past six years. She has exhibited in over 150 juried national and international exhibitions.

AWARDS: Over $3000 in cash awards

JURORS: Each art collector may select one or more pieces by artists that are not currently represented in their private collection. Collectors’ names will be kept anonymous until the opening reception. Editor’s Note: My assumption is these are collectors that purchase work in the Sylvia White Gallery. Because they are anonymous, the best recommendation I have for research is to spend some time investigate the artists the gallery represents, since in theory, it is their work these collectors are purchasing–at least in part.

AWARDS: Selected artists will participate in 2014 Collector’s Choice exhibit April 23rd to May 24th, 2014 at Sylvia White Gallery.
