If you have something to say, you should say it.  Anonymous food & restaurant reviews are cheap shots.  Have you noticed that only BAD reviews are posted by “anonymous”.  If someone has something good to say, they post their names in all CAPS.  I am hopeful that this next Call will redeem the notion of posting, or in this case exhibiting, anonymously.  How will your work stand up on its own?

Check out this Call for Entries from the Brody Art Yard for the Anonymous Project exhibited at Art Market Budapest 2015.  No entry fee.  This is a fascinating yearly experiment.  Read on to discover more…

Are you eating flowers?  I do occasionally, but only when I can buy them directly from the grower or grow them myself due to pesticides.  One of my favorite edible blooms, second only to zucchini blossoms, may be sweet violets.  I like to make a simple syrup infused with violets then make a subtle glaze for sugar cookies or a vinegar for a salad of bitter greens.  The next time you’re at the Farmer’s Market, consider the flowers edible too. Niche market foods abound.  Don’t you ever wonder who decided, “I want to grow lavender mint microgreens when I grow up”?  But someone grows lavender mint microgreens.  I used to wonder if there was a place for me in the market to make goat cheese for a living, but I have dismissed feeling like the market was too small to support my goat cheese obsession.  But now the idea of raising goats and making cheese sounds like I want to be an agricultural giant by comparison to lavender mint microgreens, eh?  This next Call is all about the niche market.  Take a look…

I pursued the holy grail of dining in the Holy City recently.  My meal began on the porch of a grand Southern home in historic Charleston, SC overlooking a garden of heirloom blooms cultivated on the property.  My meal began with a hand-propagated, rare tomato varietal and a gorgeous regional wine fermented from heirloom grapes.  Even blind folded, I couldn’t have expected to be anywhere other than one of the sparkling jewel cities of the culinary culture to be experienced only in the South.  The sense of place amplifies the food experience just as the sense of place in this one-of-a-kind Southern gallery exalts every work found within.  Claim your spot now…

I dream of lemons & olives–and corn, of course.  While dreaming of my future garden, I am excited at the prospect of growing non-GMO corn.  But, I also have fantasies of the produce I love most like lemons and olives, neither of which is native to my climate.  Is it just enormous hubris on my part to believe that if I try to grow them in a walipini that they will automatically surpass the quality of the native-grown varieties that I buy after their long trip to my local grocery store?  What is it about humans that makes us want to manipulate plants?  This next Call wants to see how you successfully manipulate plants in your art.  Take a look…
