FLORAL fodder

Did you know that water lilies are edible?  ME EITHER. I tripped across Edible Wild Plants of Pennsylvania and Neighboring States by Richard J. & Mary Lee Medve from Penn State Press (©1990)Don’t ask how I ended up in this rabbit hole; let’s just blame Instagram or Pinterest.  Not only are water lilies edible, now I have recipes too.  I can’t find any reference for their flavor, but I’m guessing floral and grassy like most edible flowers & greens.  If anyone out there knows, contact me because they are plentiful in these parts in Summer.  This next Call is all about how Summer inspires.  Take a look…

always GREENER

Grass won’t grow in my yard.  There are too many trees, too much shade & too much moisture.  But on the mountain slope behind my house there is a beautiful sunny spot that grows clover like a cash crop.  Have you eaten clover?  Oh my.  Of course you can make tea, but try them pan fried and crispy (just the blossom).  The spring crop is so delicious that I have dreams about those little blossoms.  This next Call would take clover too.  Take a look…
