MEDIA: Open to 3-D work in clay, metal, jewelry, fiber, leather, glass, sculpture, wood, books as art, or mixed media. No 2-D work will be accepted.

NOTIFICATION: August 30, 2017

ENTRY FEE: $35 for up to 3 works

JUROR: Emily Williams creates detailed glass sculptures inspired by the natural world. Her glass sculptures explore complex plant & sea life forms. Science & natural history have always played a strong role in her life. She began teaching sculpture in 1989 at Clarion University of PA. Over the years she has shared her passion for sculpture with her students. Williams has received a number of grants and awards through the years, including a Fulbright Hays grant to study in Italy. Williams was awarded her M.F.A. in Sculpture from Washington University in Saint Louis, MO.

AWARDS: Juror’s Awards will be named by the juror and announced at the Awards Reception on Sunday, November 12, 2017. These are cash awards for high-quality work. Purchase Awards will be named by the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery and will become part of the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library’s permanent art collection. Awards are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

SALES: The Sabatini Gallery encourages potential buyers to contact the artist directly. The Alice C. Sabatini Gallery & the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library receive no commission on sales.

My husband does design work for a commercial potter. As a result, I find myself lingering over the kitchenware when I visit his office. I am currently obsessed with the little 4-cup mixing bowls with a pour spout. I own one in stainless steel, and it is my “go to” for small jobs like dressings, dips & marinades. Having multiple, beautifully hand-thrown versions with a pour spout is nearly more temptation than I can take. My inability to choose a glaze is the only thing saving me at the moment. JUROR: Elizabeth Kozlowski is the curator of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and has over 12 years of curatorial and gallery experience with a specialty in contemporary ceramics. Prior to joining HCCC, Kozlowski served as the Windgate Curatorial Fellow at Arizona State University Art Museum. Kozlowski has acted as Asst Preparator for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art & as Gallery Director for Florida Craftsmen, Inc.

Kozlowski has a Masters with Honors in museum studies through the School of Human Evolution & Social Change at AZ State University & a BFA in studio art from FL Atlantic University.

AWARDS: The Greater Denton Arts Council will provide Juror Awards in the amounts of $1000, $750, $500 & $250. Winners will be determined by the juror, on site, after the accepted works are received at the Patterson-Appleton Center for the Visual Arts.

SALES: A 30% commission will be retained from all work sold during the exhibit. Works which are not for sale must be marked (NFS).

I rarely drink alcoholic beverages at home. CALL for ENTRIES: Octagon Center

TOUCHDOWN!

To my knowledge, there are no octagon shaped foods–unless you count chocolates that come in an octagon shaped box. However, there are definitely seven-sided foods. Tourné potatoes were a rival to my sanity in cooking school. Two inches long with seven perfectly rounded sides. We weren’t allowed to blunt the ends. They had to be perfectly pointed little oblong taters–nearly football shaped. It still causes me physical pain to even think about them. But they were beautiful.
