“What do you want for dinner?”  I have learned to truly detest those six words.  I appreciate choices, but I struggle with unlimited choices.  After 16 years, my husband has learned to ask, “Do you want a steak-topped salad or roasted chicken for dinner?”  That decision, I can make.  This next Call hasn’t narrowed it down for you, but I’m hoping you’re better at decision making than I am.  Plus, I suspect you’ll just  love this magazine…

Unfortunately for my husband, my late Aunt Mildred has been visiting.  Not literally–that would be creepy.  The long standing joke in my family is that my Aunt Mildred never finished anything until the last possible moment.  She hemmed her daughters’ prom dresses while they were in them trying to leave for the prom, and she left all of her kitchen cabinets wide open until she was finished with dinner.  This week alone, I have left kitchen cabinets wide open 4 times.  If I lose count, I only have to count the knots on his head.  So, my family would say, “Hi, Mildred.  Thanks for visiting.”  This next Call is a far better way to be wide open.  Trust me on this one…

It is ramp season in the Smoky Mountains.  I am thrilled to have a locally-grown, fresh vegetable of any sort after the winter of snow & ice we just endured–even if it gives us all dragon breath.  If you aren’t familiar, ramps are spring onions with a strong garlic smell and onion flavor.  They are called “spring leeks” elsewhere.  We’re using them in salads, soups, casseroles and atop nearly every dish consumed in my house right now.  You name it, we’re finding a way to eat them.  Another sign of Spring is this next Call.  Maybe this one is for you…

After graduating, he worked in the commercial art & video production fields until going full time as a fine artist in 1992.  He has won 5 Awards of Excellence at the OPA’s National Juried Show.

Golden Dawn by juror Tim DeiblerBorn and raised in Oklahoma, Deibler’s passion for landscapes, mountains in particular began after seeing the 1956 movie The Mountain as a young boy.

“Every time I look out the window or walk outside I’m in the mountains, making it much easier for me to observe the constant moods and nuances of nature. My goal is to portray what I’m experiencing in nature, I want the viewer of my work to say ‘I’d like to be there’.”--Tim Deibler
