CALL for ENTRIES: Inside Out

Learn more from the PH21 Gallery!CHICKEN SALAD
rodent on the side

In a former life, I worked as a sous chef on a charter sailboat in the Carribean for a peg-legged captain with a Sharpie parrot tattoo on his head.  It is all strangely true. That WAS my official job title…the rest too.  What I really did was spoon homemade chicken salad into avocado halves.  I served it to wealthy day trippers along with a cross-hatched mango half turned inside out, known as a hedgehog.  Sous chef? Semantics I say.  This next Call wants your version of inside out, but I’m thinking they aren’t looking for mango hedgehogs.  That’s just a theory, but you should investigate for yourself…

Check out this Call for Entries from PH21 Gallery (Budapest, Hungary) for Inside Out.   Enter 3 images  for only $13.79 (€10), & you don’t have to ship your work.  Take a look…

CUCUMBER

I’m on the lookout for a horned melon aka an African cucumber.  I tried one many years ago and remember the flavors of lemon, banana and cucumber, but because they are exceedingly rare, I can’t find one locally.  I suspect if I find one in the South, it will probably be imported and unripe.  Those tend to just taste like banana.  Keep your fingers crossed, or send me one if you run across it.  In the meantime, the next Call is a very rare illustration call.  Take a look…

3×3  ProShow

3×3 Magazine is entering its ninth year judging the world’s best contemporary illustration judged by some of the world’s top art directors, designers and illustrators.

Unlike many shows they have no boundaries, their entrants come from every part of the globe. They are still one of the best values around when it comes to entry fees and publication fees. And they continue to improve their entry process.

And unlike most show annuals that are on the bookshelves 3×3 Magazine’s annuals are prominently displayed on the newsstands in the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and parts of Asia where they are affordable to art directors and art buyers who may or may not be interested in illustration. There has been dramatic growth in the number of outlets stocking the 3×3 Magazine annual and the sales to art directors.

It is their mission to demonstrate the benefits of using illustration, this annual is their showcase.

oh my

I have dessert after every meal.  There, I admit it.  I have bre-ssert (usually fruit or chocolate BR-eakfast), le-ssert (often cookies or candy after L-unch), and dessert (cheesecake & chocolate torte are my favorites).  Everyday.  I’m not into self-deprivation, and I consider dessert a sort of punctuation after meal production.  This next Call features an opportunity for art publication, a sort of punctuation after art production.  It can be a very useful tool to advancing your art career.  Investigate this one to see if it is a fit for you…

CALL for ENTRIES: Library Thoughts 4

Sam

I still have a recipe box.  Yep.  When I find a recipe I love or make a masterpiece that warrants an official record, I write it down on an index card and stash it in my recipe box.  Why do I feel like I just confessed to some horribly illicit activity?  Well, if you still illicitly work with paper in some way, here’s a curated international open Call for works on paper.  Investigate…

Library Thoughts 4

Johann Gutenberg’s invention of movable type books ignited the explosion of art.  These days the printed books that were previously published by publishers now can be read on line as ebooks.

What is the future?

Instead of having to interact with computers through not-so-intuitive and sometimes even counter intuitive devices like a computer mouse or track pad, soon users will be able to control their computers doing natural human movements such as gestures, whole-body movement, eye movement, and perhaps even such things as facial expressions.

Is it the end for books as we know them?  Question the survival of paper, books, libraries in this digital age.  The process of sending artworks through the mail, with the envelope, the stamp and the postmark as entire part of the mail-art-object make this process to what we call MailArt.

An image of Library Thoughts 3!

Editor’s Note:  Once again, this is only Mail Art in the sense that most of the art will be mailed for the show.  Unlike traditional Mail Art shows, any unsold work will be returned in December.

Open to all artists
