I live less than a mile from one of the boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I also live only a mile from downtown; however, my town has a tiny population of around 3500 residents. My location has a profound impact on the food I eat. The availability of exotic foods is relatively limited unless you count game meats which are prevalent even in upscale restaurants. I keep a clean grill because predators are a REAL, not imagined, threat. I don’t hike or cook in the woods alone because black bears do eat people occasionally. ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists
MEDIA: All media—traditional and non-traditional visual (including sculpture, video, and experimental media) which in some way addresses or features the animal as primary subject, form, or content.
DEADLINE: February 28, 2014
NOTIFICATION: The week of March 17, 2014
ENTRY FEE: $12 per work
