JUROR:  Carolyn Russo, a professional photographer and author, is a museum specialist & photographer with the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. since 1988 where she creates original photography projects, curates art exhibitions & acquires art for the museum. She has lectured internationally & was an invited participant with the U.S. Embassy in Finland. In 2016, she was an artist in residence at NES in Skagaströnd, Iceland.  Russo has a B.F.A. in photography and studied at the Massachusetts College of Art (Boston), The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond College & Heatherly School of Fine Arts (London) & the Studio Arts Center Int’l (Florence).

AWARDS: Cash awards given at the discretion of the juror.  Best of Show $1000

SALES: The Academy Center of the Arts retains 35% commission

a little KITCHEN

So, the move is complete.  My husband & I have downsized our home by half as the next step in our being completely mobile.  I am currently referring to my home as “box city” for reasons that I imagine are obvious.  Part of the move included purging my life of all the “stuff” weighing me down, including kitchen gadgets and single-use appliances.  The lack of stuff has necessarily affected my cooking as well, encouraging simplicity, whole foods & clean eating.  It is a new place, a new space & an opportunity for a fresh perspective.  This next Call, although un-themed, reinforces the idea of a unique sense of place.  Take a look…

JUROR: Studio artist, writer, curator & educator Garth Johnson is curator of ceramics at the ASU Art Museum in Tempe, AZ. Before moving to Tempe, Garth was the Curator of Artistic Programs at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia & spent 7 years as a Professor at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA. He is a self-described craft activist who explores crafts influence & relevance in the 21st century.

AWARDS:  $750 Best of Show Award and two $500 Juror’s Awards. At the juror’s discretion, additional non-cash Honorable Mention awards may also be presented.

SALES:  GHIA will retain 35% commission on sales.

THEME:  This exhibition/competition will encompass ALL varieties of nocturnal art:  twilight/dusk, dawn, urban, interiors, landscapes, figures, etc.

MEDIA: All media considered except photography & computer generated art.

DEADLINE:  June 30, 2017

NOTIFICATION:  July 21, 2017

ENTRY FEE: $45 up to 3 entries.  $35 for STAC artist level members.

JUROR:  An art collector for over 25 years, Tim Newton has amassed a collection of some 300 works in an array of genres—still lifes, figures, landscapes, wildlife works and bronze sculptures. His collection shows great diversity which includes pieces by many prominent living master artists.  He is currently in his third term as Chairman of the Board of the Salmagundi Club, and he also serves on the Board of the Artists’ Fellowship, the Board of Trustees for the Stobart Foundation & the Board of Advisors for the Clark Hulings Foundation.

AWARDS:  $1,000 Best in Show, $500 2nd Place & $250 3rd Place

SALES:  STAC will receive a 30% commission on all work sold.
