I think the teenagers that work at my local market think I am the crazy produce lady.  It might have something to do with the muttering under my breath when they drop the pineapple on my tomatoes or the fact that I will stand in a longer line to get the cashier that won’t drop a cantaloupe on my cilantro.   The muttering prevents me from coming unhinged.  The only thing missing from the scenerio is my muttering “whippersnappers,” but I assure you it will show up eventually. Hehe.  This next Call wants unhinged in a less curmudgeonly way, I suspect.  You decide…

BWAC has a truly unique gallery – a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords them the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and they welcome it.

They will be using 8,000 square feet for this show to exhibit work from artists from all around the country, work in all size, subject, and medium, except film.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all US residents 18 years+

JUROR:  Marshall N. Price received his Ph.D. in art history from The Graduate Center, CUNY and has written and lectured widely on American art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. From 1998 to 2002 he was Assistant Curator at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.

Learn more from BWAC!Since 2003 Marshall has been at the National Academy Museum in NY where he is the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Some of his recent exhibitions include The Abstract Impulse: Fifty Years of Abstraction at the National Academy (2007), George Tooker: A Retrospective (2008), a traveling exhibition organized with Robert Cozzolino, Curator, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and most recently Reconfiguring the Body in American Art, 1820–2009 (2009, co-curated with Bruce Weber), and John Cage: The Sight of Silence (2012, co-curated with Ray Kass).

AWARDS:  BEST of SHOW: $1000.00 At the Opening Reception, the artist whose work is juried as ‘Best of Show’ by the juror will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a complimentary one-year BWAC membership.

PEOPLES’ CHOICE: Learn more from BWAC!$500.00 The artist whose work is voted ‘Best’ by attendees at the Show Opening will receive a $500 cash prize and a complimentary one-year BWAC membership

CURATORS’ CHOICE: $250.00 The artist whose work the Show Curators choose for excellence will receive a $250.00 cash prize and a complimentary one-year BWAC membership.

HONORABLE MENTION: $100 each for ten winners.

SALES:  BWAC will retain a 25% commission on all exhibition sales.
