Voices X, the anniversary exhibit of Voices from the Warehouse, is a month-long art exhibit and cultural event located in a re-purposed industrial warehouse within Dubuque, Iowa’s Historic Millwork District. Voices from the Warehouse is a grass-roots art movement wrought by distinctive artists and like-minded advocates.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all 18+ artists

MEDIA: All media–ideally suited for the transformative art experience, which includes installations, video, two- and three-dimensional art.

ENTRY FEE: No fee for 5 to 10 images

AWARDS: Voices X is pleased to support the artists by offering a $300 stipend to each artist selected for the show, which will take place September 6 through October 4, 2014. I am moving temporarily. In addition to being musicians, my husband and I renovate houses for resale; however, we haven’t owned our own home in about 10 years. We have finally decided to buy or build. But in the meantime, our current rental has turned into a haven for mold & mildew. So, we’re starting fresh in a new, smaller house (& smaller kitchen). It would be so much easier if someone would just find and renovate a house for me for free, eh? I am always the dreamer. But, this next Call really IS FREE, and it isn’t a dream. Mono No Aware

Film & video have become easily accessible. One can watch content on a website, television, a home projector, or even a cell phone. For some artists and filmmakers those vehicles are copies of the original artwork, each one degraded by its format. MNA believes there is a magic in seeing the film projected as a print. There is a presence a poet has reading his/her own writing. There is a feeling that resonates in your chest when seeing a band live. For these reasons MNA encourages live music, performance and audio to expand the cinematic experience beyond the screen. MNA asks that in the spirit of the festival you not video or create copies of your performance. Some participants have gone as far as to destroy the work after its first run at the event.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Contemporary art that incorporates Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm or altered light projections as part of a sculpture, installation, dance, or expanded cinema performance. Submissions including digital projections will not be considered (i.e. HDcam, DigiBETA, DVcam, DVD) all moving images should be from an analog source.

MEDIA: Sculpture, Installation, Video, Mixed media, Found Object Assemblage, and/or non-traditional media are preferred. Larger sizes and Site specificity preferable. The exhibition space is a raw Warehouse space, 8000 square feet of open space (no columns), cement floors, 12 foot brick walls, with much a domed ceiling that begins at 17 feet high and rises to at least 25 feet high. JUROR/CURATOR: Lisa Rockford received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Lisa is an Assistant Professor at Broward College, a resident artist at Sailboat Bend artist Lofts, and founding member 1310 Gallery. Lisa began curating Contemporary art exhibitions in her position as Art Services Director of the Dittmar Gallery at Northwestern University in 2000.

Lisa was awarded the Innovative Collaborative Grant through Funding Arts Broward in 2011 for her Solo show at the Art and culture Center and named as one of Gold Coast Magazine’s “40 under 40 Rising Stars.”

Goat heads, really? Caught a show called Extreme Cheapskates the other day just long enough to see a man by two goat heads for $7.50 total. In many parts of the world, goat heads are a common protein, and I’m not knocking it because I haven’t eaten it. My problem with the concept is that he was supposed to be an extreme cheapskate. SlowArt Productions presents the annual group thematic exhibition, A Show of Heads. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery from October 27 – November 25, 2012.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible.

THEME: This exhibition will include all interpretations and portrayals of the human head, from the traditional to the abstract and conceptual. All visions of the The Head, including partial and multiple heads, will be reviewed and considered.

DEADLINE: Entries must be submitted via email by August 31, 2012.

NOTIFICATION: Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance no later than September 21, 2012. Results will be posted on or before this date at: http://www.slowart.com/results. Notification will be made via email and by posting on the results page. All artists who provide a working email address will be notified via email, if no email is provided, artists will be notified via postal mail only if accepted to exhibit. Type your email address clearly, if a mistake is made you will not be notified.

ENTRY FEE: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital JPG image files. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Details of 2D artwork count as an additional artwork. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork without cost. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Payments by credit card at time of entry using PayPal, or check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions.

AWARDS: Winning artists will be featured in a group exhibition at the Limner Gallery, October 27- November 25, 2012. The exhibition will also be displayed on the Limner Gallery web site. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #20, Fall 2013 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Many exhibitions have toured to 2nd venues.

AWARDS: Two artists will get a joint exhibition at CAW in 2013. All selected entries will be included in an online gallery on the CAW website.

Creature Comforts: is an installation and sculpture exhibition that explores the idea of the things that make us comfortable and at ease in everyday life. In modern day society many luxury items are considered a necessity and are difficult to live without.

This exhibition will explore the artist’s view on modern creature comforts, and society’s dependence on the luxuries in life, and their residual effects.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Sculpture and Installation work with the following limitations: Final measurements must be inclusive of frame, if applicable. Weight may not exceed 150 pounds. All entries must have been conceived and created by the artist submitting the work. All work selected must be ready for exhibit: 2D work must be framed with secure hanging devices; 3D work must be suitably prepared with instructions for installation. The gallery reserves the right to reject work that differs from submitted images.

JUROR: Mary Cook and Allison Nance of microWave project llc. Founded in 2010, microWave project acts a conduit between artists and groups and/or businesses to provide space for temporary, pop‐up, “micro” galleries. Their mission is to help promote these artists and educate the community by exploring alternative venues for emerging & established artists with an emphasis on site‐specific installation art. By developing programming to correspond with the exhibitions, they provide accessible art experiences to the public by encouraging community dialogue.
