I have broken my own blue-food rule. I have ranted & raved for years about food coloring. I have forever sworn off any faux food colored any shade of blue, but I have given in. This year will be my very first time in my life that I will have a “real” Christmas tree (living, as opposed to artificial). So, I decided that all the ornaments and decorations should be “real” too (read handmade or homemade). I couldn’t resist the most beautiful electric-blue gum drops I have ever seen. I am testing them out as a sweet garland. Forgive the hypocrisy, but I promise not to eat them. This next Call is another non-edible use for all things blue. Maybe this one’s for you…

ELIGIBILITY: All artists age 18+

MEDIA: Open to all still media: painting, drawing, collage, photography, digital, etc.

THEME: BLUE. The art created of any subject that is enhanced by the use of the color blue, whether it is a single dot of blue or a completely blue image. The color blue should enhance the narrative of the works subject as Blue can imply many emotions, symbolism or feelings, from blue marble to Blues music. Blue can express the future, good feelings, happiness, prosperity, ocean or sky, and we can feel blue, etc. It can be used to enhance, emphasize or be a focal point in the art.

DEADLINE: January 4, 2016

NOTIFICATION: January 13, 2016

ENTRY FEE: $20 for 1, $10 each add’l

AWARDS: Up to Fifteen artists will be selected for a group exhibit, “BLUE” at G25N’s online gallery opening on January 22, 2016.

MEDIA: Open to painting, drawing, collage, photography, sculpture, digital art & fiber art

THEME: The human form. The curator will be selecting art-work in seven different medium categories conveying the grace, beauty, movement, power, mechanics or any other aspects of the human form. The curators and judges will select work based on the originality, uniqueness of the vision conveyed, quality of execution and how clearly the artist’s individual technique/style is presented in each work. The work can be expressed from realism to abstraction.

DEADLINE: September 28, 2015

NOTIFICATION: October 9, 2015

I’ve been studying food preservation, from pickling & water-bath canning to vacuum-sealing & salt-packing. I’ve run across a huge amount of admirable testing, experimentation and success amongst food-enthusiasts, homemakers, homesteaders, preppers & gardners alike. I am open to almost anything culinary at least once, but some folks are out there just purposely trying to make food, well, wrong. Koolickles. I am almost beyond words this time. Koolickles are created by soaking dill pickles in a mixture of Kool-Aid® & pickle brine. Being open doesn’t always work in my favor, but this next Call definitely does. Red is undeniably my favorite color. I find myself drawn to red tones in food, from salmon to cherry Jell-o, Bloody Mary’s to pomegranates. Go figure. The color red can imply many emotions and feelings, for example: power, heat, love, sexuality, anger, joy, war, etc. It can be used to enhance, emphasize or be a focal point in the artwork. The artwork can be expressed from representational, expressionistic, surrealistic and or abstraction.
