So, I’ve been in potato rehab for about 3 weeks now. I am trying to conquer the problem, but all I can do is dream about chips coated in dark chocolate. I have forbidden my family from bringing chips or chocolate in the house. I can behave when I have witnesses, but when I’m alone… look out. This next Call wants to reward you and you alone. ENTRY FEE: $25 for up to 3, $5 ea. add’l

JUROR: Jennifer Casler Price has held the position of curator for Asian and non-Western art at the Kimbell Art Museum since 1993. She has also juried exhibitions for the Dallas Business Comm. for the Arts, the San Antonio Art Museum League & the Fort Worth Main Street Arts Festival. Price has been a member of the Assoc. of American Museum Curators (AAMC) since its founding in 2001.

AWARDS: Grand Prize Winner receives a solo show in the Main Gallery at Art7 & a honorarium of $2000. Runners Up receive a group exhibition occurring simultaneously as the solo show in the Back section of the Art7 Gallery. And, the People’s Choice award goes to a single artist who receives the most likes on Facebook will receive a cash prize of $250.

My whole house smells like peppers & basil at the moment. A recent Saturday trip to the farmers market ended with a huge surplus of these staples, but to prevent loss, I am dehydrated both. Then I will grind, chop or crumble most of these into a smaller form for storage and use this winter. This next Call could be an outlet for new work, but it could be an excellent way to compact and move out studies or older work. I encourage you to contemplate cutting down your work. Yes, I DID say, “cutting down your work”…

CALL for ENTRIES:
9×12 Works on Paper

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Works on paper that will fit in a 9×12 envelope. Artworks may be any size, but they MUST fit in a 9” x 12” envelope to be mailed, although they may be folded, 3D or multi-part. More than one work may be mailed in each envelope. Acceptable media includes photography, drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, cast or folded paperworks, artist books or digital prints. *A few brave souls out there might consider cutting larger work down to create more abstract work.

DEADLINE: November 16, 2015

NOTIFICATION: All hung show

ENTRY FEE: $5 per piece, limit 6

SALES: All artwork will be for sale for $100 US and FWCAC retains a 25% commission. Unsold works sent with an appropriate size self-addressed STAMPED envelope (SASE) will be returned.

*Editor’s Note: If you are careful (& have fantastic work, of course), you might be able to make a few dollars with this exhibit. Six entries ($30 USD), sent USPS Priority Mail ($6 USD) = $36. If 6 pieces sell for $100USD ea., & the venue retains 25% commission = $450 USD. Net before material costs = $450 – $36 = $414USD.

I live in a town with a population of approximately 3500. We have 1 zip code & area code, 1 post office, and…one grocery store. Luckily, the popularity of my hometown with tourists affords a few luxuries like a recently renovated produce and seafood section in our lone grocery store. I bought salmon there last week, and it came wrapped in paper. Paper. Lovely. Thank you for not adding another piece of plastic wrap to my grocery cart. LAZY NIGHTS

I had salmon “en papillote” tonight. Fear not, it just means “in parchment”. Contrary to what you might think, it is not the French-cool-factor that leads me down the path of parchment cooking.
