SILVER
and gold
I love the crispy, silvery skin of pan-sauteed salmon filets. I’ve always thought of it as one of the healthy excuses for the consumption of my favorite fatty fishes. Turns out the silvery skin contains concentrated amounts of whatever contaminates existed in the water from which they were caught. Ugh. Apparently all that glitters is not gold–or silver. Silver Eye 14
Silver Eye Center for Photography announces a Call for Entries for Fellowship 14, our international photography competition. Now in its 14th year, this competition recognizes both rising talent and established photographers from all corners of the globe and from the state of Pennsylvania.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists, 18+
MEDIA: Photography, short documentary video, or internet-based project
DEADLINE: October 21, 2013
NOTIFICATION: On or before November 12, 2013
ENTRY FEE: For up to 10 images: $15 for current Silver Eye members at the $40 level and above, with membership valid through January 31, 2014.$60 for non-Silver Eye members.
Those interested in becoming a member or renewing their membership at the time of submission may do so at the $40 membership level and then pay an additional $15 to submit—a $5 savings, for a total cost of $55.
JURORS: Linda Benedict-Jones is Curator of Photography at Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to this, Linda served as the Executive Director of Silver Eye Center for Photography from 1999 to 2008 and has also served as Curator of Education at The Frick Art & Historical Center (Pittsburgh, PA). Linda earned a Master’s Degree in Visual Studies from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982 and has taught courses in photography at a number of universities including the London College of Printing, England; Harvard Extension School; and Carnegie Mellon University.
- One (1) International Award Winner receives a solo exhibition at Silver Eye opening mid-January 2014; $3,000 for exhibition-related expenses; an online gallery on Silver Eye’s website (with link to artist website); and media outreach and promotion.
- One (1) Keystone Award Winner receives a spotlight exhibition in mid-January 2014; $1,000 for exhibition-related expenses; an online gallery on Silver Eye’s website (with link to artist website); and media outreach and promotion.
- Five (5) Judges’ Commendation Winners will be named on Silver Eye’s website and press releases.
