OUCH!

I dislike overhead lighting, except in the kitchen.  Much of my home is dimly lit; I prefer soft lamp lighting.  But, my art studio and my kitchen are the exceptions.  I’ve injured myself with everything from an Xacto knife to myriad of small and large chef knives.  Lessons learned.  Shadows are not the best place to create fine art or fine food.  This next Call wants you to expose your shadows.  Whatcha think?

Check out this Call to Artists for Shadows from the Linus Galleries (California).   The exhibit offers an online listing as well as the possibility for a showing in one of their brick and mortar galleries.  Take a look…

My garden is abundant in chili peppers this year.  I keep thinking I’m going to make Thai food at home, but in reality, I won’t as long as my favorite Thai restaurant stays in business.  I love the choice of mild all the way to Thai hot.  The hotter, the better for me, but my kiddo still prefers medium hot.  This next Call celebrates artists who are climbing their own ladder of hotness.  Take a look…

I am guilty of making the occasional sauce to cover up an over-cooked piece of meat. Yes, I know that any meat that NEEDS sauce shouldn’t be served, but it happens.  However, the best things to eat are usually at their prime when featured naked.  The pluot is a perfect example.  It is a cross between a plum and an apricot. CALL for PROPOSALS: Public Art

My son has recently decided to try to break a Guinness World Record, but he can’t figure out which one (he’s 13).  It takes all the self-control to not suggest that he make the world’s largest chocolate chip cookie.  This next call will resort in only a 10 foot circle; I suspect that is far to small for the world’s largest cookie.  Nonetheless, this is a great opportunity…

It takes great restraint not to continue food patterns in our menus.  I am guilty of taco night, pizza night, and buffalo chicken night.  I am trying to rationalize it by changing up the taco and pizza ingredients, but it is a pattern, nonetheless.  I’m not saying it si a bad thing, I just think it can lead to dangerous stall patterns that end in pre-packaged and fast food that I try to live without.  This next Call wants to know all about your patterns.   Let’s see ’em, folks…

I am fascinated by food fads.  Remember when jalapeno poppers were the newest trend?  I always wonder what the next trend will be and how a new “cutting edge” idea becomes a part of the main stream.  We are watching organic foods slowly become the norm, and the prices of organics are shrinking.  How long until the mainstream starts seeing more value in vegetarian, or even vegan, lifestyle choices.  This next show puts cutting edge together with art for a mainstream exhibit.  Maybe this one is for you…
