CALL for ENTRIES: Wide Open Digital 2

Learn more about Wide Open Digital 2 from Digital Arts California!CABINETS
full of
hard knocks

Unfortunately for my husband, my late Aunt Mildred has been visiting.  Not literally–that would be creepy.  The long standing joke in my family is that my Aunt Mildred never finished anything until the last possible moment.  She hemmed her daughters’ prom dresses while they were in them trying to leave for the prom, and she left all of her kitchen cabinets wide open until she was finished with dinner.  This week alone, I have left kitchen cabinets wide open 4 times.  If I lose count, I only have to count the knots on his head.  So, my family would say, “Hi, Mildred.  Thanks for visiting.”  This next Call is a far better way to be wide open.  Trust me on this one…

I live with culinary diplomats.  Never ones to forsake a food altogether, my family tries to find the silver lining to every food basket.  They have mastered words like “earthy, piquant, herbaceous & grassy” to avoid speaking ill of my food experiments.  As a result, I cook with a sort of anything-goes-abandon that produces both masterpieces & snacks turned down even by the dogs.  This next Call wants the masterpieces that come from your anything-goes, devil-may-care, art abandon.  Give it a shot…

When I moved recently, I pared down some unnecessary kitchen gadgets–all digital.  Among the things I ditched were a digital meat thermometer and a digital kitchen timer.  I just prefer the non-digital ones.  I never quite trust the digital ones.  I’m always concerned about whether the batteries are on the fritz.  This next Call, although digital, isn’t one to ditch…

I live in a town with a population of approximately 3500.  We have 1 zip code & area code, 1 post office, and…one grocery store.  Luckily, the popularity of my hometown with tourists affords a few luxuries like a recently renovated produce and seafood section in our lone grocery store.  I bought salmon there last week, and it came wrapped in paper.  Paper.  Lovely. Thank you for not adding another piece of plastic wrap to my grocery cart.  There is a time and place for paper, and this next Call would be another of them.  Take a look…

Menu planning is great in theory. I do it most weeks only to end up picking out dinner much like throwing a dart at a dart board. Vacation has not been kind to my figure.  Tomorrow is the last day of my summer vacation at Lake Lure (Dirty Dancing & Last of the Mohicans were filmed here), and I am already trying to figure out tomorrow’s food schedule and we’ve just finished with today’s brunch.  What is it about being out of town that leads to over-indulgence and gluttony?  Maybe I need another treat to figure it out.
