So, I’ve been in potato rehab for about 3 weeks now.  I am trying to conquer the problem, but all I can do is dream about chips coated in dark chocolate.  I have forbidden my family from bringing chips or chocolate in the house.  I can behave when I have witnesses, but when I’m alone… look out.  This next Call wants to reward you and you alone.  Trust me, this is better than chips & chocolate.  The deadline is looming…

DEADLINE:  May 15, 2017 (midnight CMT)

NOTIFICATION:  June 1, 2017

ENTRY FEE:  $25 for up to 3, $5 ea. add’l

JUROR:  Jennifer Casler Price has held the position of curator for Asian and non-Western art at the Kimbell Art Museum since 1993.  She has also juried exhibitions for the Dallas Business Comm. for the Arts, the San Antonio Art Museum League & the Fort Worth Main Street Arts Festival.  Price has been a member of the Assoc. of American Museum Curators (AAMC) since its founding in 2001.

AWARDS:  Grand Prize Winner receives a solo show in the Main Gallery at Art7 & a honorarium of $2000.  Runners Up receive a group exhibition occurring simultaneously as the solo show in the Back section of the Art7 Gallery.  And, the People’s Choice award goes to a single artist who receives the most likes on Facebook will receive a cash prize of $250.

My earliest food influences came from my grandmother & her sister Maggie.  They had such different styles.  My grandmother was all about a meat, two veggies, some form of potato, bread & dessert.  Every meal.  My great aunt Mag was all about the drama.  Her corn-on-the-cob was the best.  Her deviled eggs were the best.  Her pancakes were the best.  But everything else, apart from the star of the meal, was an after thought.  I find myself gravitating toward concentrating on one dish and forgetting the rest.  All the glory, none of the mundane. SWEET harvest

While my friends are dreaming of picnics awash with super-size sandwiches and fresh squeezed lemonade, I crave fruit salads.  My childhood was fulled of canned fruit cocktail, coconut & marshmallow concoctions; so my adulthood is ripe with freshness. Most of the year I try to take in moderate amounts of sugar, but fresh, summer fruits like apples & pears, starfruit & guava, berries & melons are more than I can resist.  I’m hoping you can’t resist this next Call, which is also all about summer.  Take a look…

She has taught at UMW since 1998 and is a recipient of UMW’s Outstanding Young Faculty Member Award. In addition to numerous private collections, her work has been exhibited at the Main Art Gallery & 1708 Gallery in Richmond, the WPA/Corcoran Museum in D.C., as well as Peru & Germany.

AWARDS:  First Place $250, Second Place $150 and Third Place $75

ART OPPORTUNITY: Love the Outdoors?

Click to subscribe to ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!I have never been an outdoorsy girl…ever.  But, three years ago I moved to the Great Smoky Mountains, and I have been as converted…well, as much as is realistically possible.  Spiders still make me scream, but blood-sucking ticks are no longer panic worthy.  I like to hike and fish occasionally, enjoy snow sledding and river lounging…I am even headed white-water rafting today with NOC.  No joke.

So, in honor of my new-found, albeit green, love for the outdoors, check out this great call for artists.  Hi-Tec footwear is looking for artists that love the outdoors and are looking to pay a couple of you to have some fun.  What could be better?  Here’s the call:

Are you passionate about the outdoors? We’re looking for two talented artists to join us in Salt Lake City, Utah for Outdoor Retailer’s Summer Market. Each chosen artist will be a part of their live OR art project—an exciting, fast-paced session of inspiration and sketching. All proceeds from the event will go to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). All you need to do is send them a link to your portfolio or a sample of your work (original compositions only please) by July 2, 2010!

They are setting up two lucky artists with an all-expenses paid trip to Outdoor Retailer’s Summer Market, where outdoor equipment retailers, manufacturers, and industry professionals come together to showcase and discover the latest in outdoor apparel and gear.

Not only will you get to hang with the Hi-Tec team, but they will outfit you in the latest and greatest Hi-Tec gear, and hook you up with $300 each day for your time and talent.

Interested artists should submit a link to their portfolio or 2 art samples, and tell them how you are inspired by the outdoors.

There are three easy ways to enter:

1. Send a tweet to @HiTecUSA – be sure to use the hashtag #ArtforParks

2. Post an artwork sample on our Facebook page, facebook.com/HiTecUSA

3. Fill out this form

Skype is free and fun! The Hi-Tec team will select the top 10 entries based on not only creativity and originality, but also whether the artist emulates a passion for the outdoors. The top 10 artists will be chosen on July 6, 2010, and contacted for a Skype interview to be held on July 7, 2010. The top two artists will be finalized and announced by 4 p.m. PST on July 7, 2010.
