OPEN CALL for Proposals: IA&A at Hillyer

Learn more about the Open Call from IA and A at Hillyer!

just BREW it

How do you fuel your early afternoons?  I know some of you find it freaky that I’ve not consumed coffee in 20+ years, but I’ve just never acquired the taste.  Whether you choose sugar-full or sugar-substituted, soft drinks are a horrible alternative.  So, I am taking suggestions.  Smoothies are fantastic, and I can make pretty healthy choices that offer a little energy boost.  However, to maintain any sort of variety, I’d need a much larger amount storage space.  Has anyone tried the the soup & smoothie subscription service? (not a paid post or affiliate link).  It might be an interesting way to get variety.  Sometimes you just need a little help.

This next Call is MORE than just a little help. Many of you will live outside the qualifiers (living either within 150 miles of D.C. OR non-Americans living outside the U.S.), but on the off-chance some of you might qualify, I wanted to be certain to post this opportunity.  The award is invaluable and listed in full below.  Take a minute and investigate.  If you don’t qualify, share this post with someone that does.

Check out this Open Call from International Arts & Artists [IA&A] at Hillyer (Washington, DC) for Annual Show Proposals.  $30 Entry, HUGE award value, and no sales commission. This is a great venue…

It has been a complicated day week, and my husband asked, “Want a drink?”.  I declined.  “Want a pizza?”  Um, yes please.  We’ve been married for nearly 20 years.  He’s got my number.  And does my comfort pizza feature fresh, gourmet ingredients?  Of course not.  I want what we have dubbed “cardboard” pizza.  It is much like the cafeteria pizza at your local public high school.  I know, bad for me.  Hush.  This Call is from a gallery that could be great for your career.  And YOU can be the fresh ingredient.  There’s no fee to try…

just say YES

I don’t understand the Sunday “cheat day”.  I have lots of health conscious friends that believe Sundays are for eating anything you want, no matter how processed, fatty or sugar-laden.  They are looking for a respite, I suppose, from the restrictive day-to-day food habits they practice.  But, I’m an adult, and I don’t need a cheat day.  I am going to eat what I want when I want and deal with the consequences.  Life is short; I want everyday to be a respite from deprivation.  So there.  This next Call offers you a respite from the world and time to concentrate on your art.  Take a look…

DESSERT-less

My Chinese take-out night has a routine: egg drop soup, steamed dumplings, Kan Shaw beef & a fortune cookie. My friend who works behind the counter laughs every time I pick up a menu because he knows my order won’t change. Until last week, my husband came home with a bag of neatly stacked fold-up boxes & a pint of steaming soup.  Dinner was lovely, but cookie-less.  Fortune cookies must now be ordered; they cost 25¢ each. I know the cookies are far from Chinese & the fortunes ridiculous.  But, it I love them still.   Just when it seems “nothing is free” is confirmed, there comes our next Call.  Here is your chance to be included in a group exhibit or have a show of your own, no entry fee.  Take a look…
