CALL for ENTRIES: Drawing from Perception

Learn more about the Drawing from Perception exhibit from the Stein Galleries at Wright State University! FEED me

Restaurant wait times make me testy, and if I’m “hangry”, you’d better hope the kitchen isn’t in the weeds.  I have a handful of standard distraction techniques, but my favorite is the restaurant with paper cover tables to draw on.  It never fails that my artistic genius strikes when the only materials on hand are roll paper & crayons.  Let’s call them oil pastels, shall we?  This next Call wants your best drawing.  Show ’em what you’ve got…

Check out this Call for Entries from Wright State University Art Department (Dayton, OH) for Drawing from Perception VIII, a national juried drawing exhibition at the Stein Galleries. This is another great opportunity to add an academic show to your resume…

Have you ever looked at a menu so many times that you quit seeing the obvious offerings?  I get stuck in a rut with menus, ordering the same thing over & over again.  Last week I was standing in my favorite Chinese take-out staring at the back-lit menu when steamed dumplings appeared to me as though they had never been there before. “I’m a huge believer that we often overlook the potential that is right in front of us. This might be because we’re trained by society to focus on what it thinks is important and separate out everything else.  We’re constantly required to go through this kind of exercise in our daily lives and become so used to it that we might be inclined to carry it over to our photography as well. A good example is the posed photograph . . . What about the moments building up to and after the shot.  Don’t these tell an interesting story as well?” –from Jeff Alu via laphotocurator.com

In the northern hemisphere nature’s color continues to fade as the world goes to sleep during our transition from autumn to winter.
