take two & call me after BREAKFAST

Food as medicine has been on my radar for a decade.  I appreciate the ability to attempt home remedies through food and supplements.  I am not suggesting it is easier, nor am I suggestion it is a solution for all ailments.  But, I am intrigued.  A family history of arthritis, combined with years of a slight addiction to towering high heels, has resulted in massive joint pain in one of feet.  Flair ups are completely manageable with a combination of tart cherries & massive quantities of vitamin C.  Drug-resistant pediatric epilepsy is now often treated by mainstream medicine with a ketogenic diet.  The collaboration between doctors and nutritionists is inspiring. This Call offers you the opportunity to collaborate with writers.  Take a look…

such sweet NECTAR

Pancakes are an uncommon treat at our house.  Even the best of store bought syrup shouldn’t be kept as long as the periods between pancake occurrences at our breakfast table.  So, my husband now makes our pancake syrup.  Someone suggested he substitute agave nectar for the sugar in the recipe.  Wow.  It isn’t a 1:1 substitution.  Agave nectar is much sweeter than honey or refined sugar.  I can’t handle it.  We’ll stick to the water, sugar, molasses & vanilla standard, thanks.  This next Call is just sweet enough to intrigue.  Take a look…

Yellow tomatoes abound at my grocer.  For some reason, my options are limited to uber-sweet cherry tomatoes, rock-hard-Brazilian-hot-house slicing reds or romas, trendy-but-mealy brown and entirely-too-sweet yellow tomatoes.  I like my tomatoes super acidic and red or tart, green and fried.  I know it takes all kinds, but I am looking for just one specific color of the rainbow. Learn more about the Girls, Girls, Girls!girly GREENS

The girls-eat-salad debate continues. Stock photography makes it appear that women can barely nibble a leaf without laughing.  Men in movie bars disparage women who eat salads for their sexier steak-eating counterparts.  Body-shamers think women should only eat salad while movie intellectuals think kale salad is for silly hipsters. I am uncertain how gender really applies to food.  I only know that after a weeks on the road, there is little better than hand-torn greens and back yard veggies from the farmers’ market topped with a homemade dress.  My husband agrees.  And while salad may not be all about the girls, this Call is. Eating is a roving action at my house.  Sometimes breakfast is consumed at the kitchen counter.  Lunch often ends up as a living room picnic.  If I’m lucky, dinner is eaten at the kitchen table twice per week, and it isn’t because I love eating on the go.  The reality is, my tabletop is generally covered by paperwork that should be on my desk or art that should be in my studio space or music equipment undergoing cleaning or repair.  Tonight it holds a prom tuxedo (don’t ask).  I need a more functional tabletop landscape –just like this next call.  The deadline is rapidly approaching…

soup to BEANS

It is all a matter of taste, right?  I know that for every food there is someone who believes its tastes better than all other foods, but I still can’t quite resolve myself to the notion that some foods aren’t just objectively bad.  Warhol is famous for, among other things, depictions of a soup.  That same soup is the foundation for thousands of green bean casserole recipes.  SOMEone believes it to be “Mmm mmm good”, but I am not one of the some.  I don’t have a lot of food limits, aside from Century eggs and boiled okra, but just no.  It is a black and white issue for me –just like this next Call.  Investigate this opportunity…
