CALL for ENTRIES: Order & Chaos

Learn more about the Order & Chaos exhibit at the Fred Parker Giles Gallery at EKU!PAPER or plastic?

Do you prefer boxes or bags in your pantry?  I like the structure of boxed pasta, beans & cereal, but I love the price of most things bagged.  I prefer not to store things in plastic, but I’m not convinced the process used to create cardboard is any better.  I own a lot of glass which inevitably involves breakage and the energy consumption involved in cleaning and/or sterilization. It can be difficult to distinguish the order from the chaos, but this Call offers us a second change.  Give it a shot…

CALL for ENTRIES: Bring us Your Dead

Learn more about the Bring us your Dead exhibit from Las Laguna Gallery!shared TREATS

My Aunt Maggie B. loved marzipan. We would attempt to craft our own from honey, powdered sugar and finely ground almonds & foregoing the additional almond extract.  The year I spent with her trying to form our Play-Doh-like lumps into little fruit and vegetable shapes taught me that food color can be derived from real food, not just a jar, that gold and silver are edible in small amounts, and that treats well-labored taste better.  I celebrate the making & eating of every marzipan fruit with my great aunt Mag (RIP, 1922-2005).  This Call is a chance for you to celebrate life with someone who has already passed.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: The Mind’s Eye

Learn more about The Minds Eye exhibit from all-about-photo.com!BREAKFAST blahs

We always end up eating eggs for breakfast.  I am so bored with eggs.  Because I try to avoid single-use appliances, I didn’t own a waffle iron until I inherited one second-hand from my mother-in-law last week.  We’ve had waffles 4 times in the last 7 days.  My husband asked, “Don’t you want something different?”   I explained that appearance of something 4 times in our nearly 20 years together still qualifies as something different even if the 4 times were all in one week.  The award for best waffles EVER goes to this morning’s blueberry bacon maple variety.  He deserves a cash award, really.  This next Call comes with cash awards but no blueberry waffles.  It is still worth a look though…

Check out this Call for Entries from All-About-Photo.com for The Mind’s Eye for a showcase at the Jules Maeght Gallery (San Francisco, CA) in addition to an online gallery.  Big jury pool, big prizes & reasonable entry fee.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: Wide Open 7

7 DAYS

Veggies everyday seems simple.  There are many different perspectives on how much is enough, but the average recommendation is 5 servings a day (approximately 1/2 c., well packed, per serving).  Five days a week, no problem, but because I travel for work so often, those last 2 days seem to elude me.  I still manage 2 or 3 fruits & veggies a day, but the full five is a struggle.  Celebrate seven with this next call.  Open to all media…

CALL for ENTRIES: Emerging Plein Air

Enter the $5 Art Contest today!CUTS of cold

It isn’t even officially winter yet, and I am already whining about wanting to picnic.   I think it is the prevalence of cold cuts at holiday parties that does this to me.  That, or my dogged determination to not be happy in whichever food season I find myself.  But, I prefer to think it is the subliminal messaging from cold cuts.  Four months and counting until I can eat in the open air again.  Speaking of open air, check out this next Call.  This is a new category of Call for AAAD.  Show them some picnic-style love…
