I will eat almost anything once, we’ve established this already.  But, as a kid, I would not get past the lemon-furniture-polish impression I had of lemongrass and ginger.  Luckily I was far more likely to be faced with fried okra than lemongrass as a youngster.  As an adult, I am such a fan.  A day with a bowl (or three) of Tom Kha soup never ends badly.  I’m a little overly enthusiastic about ginger, but perfectly enthusiastic about this Call.  Take a look…

I often feel indignant about crap people are willing to eat.  Yes, it’s a little judge-y.  But, there are so many people worldwide without the access to healthy food, so I find myself impatient when people take it for granted.  But, I digress.  My husband recently enjoyed making fun of the newly-acquired fact that the only apricots I have ever eaten have been dried or a part of a sauce or jam.  My husband insisted we buy a fresh apricot, and, apparently, it is on the menu as a part of my breakfast in the morning. I lived in the USVI for a couple of years, and my house used only cistern water.   Rainfall kept the supply flowing for most of the year, but a couple of months prior to the rainy season we’d have to pay to have the cistern fill… about $500.  That was 20 years ago.  I try to internalize this memory every time I pay my $85 water bill.  Well, that and I can actually cook with the tap water at my current home.  Back then the hashtag would have been #dontlookinthebottomofcistern or #youdontwanttoknow.  This next call is all about the water, and there are no restriction on the orgin of YOUR water.  Investigate…

Fresh fruit is still my favorite dessert.  I will take a bowl of berries over chocolate 9 times out of 10.  The only thing I miss is the fat content, the luscious mouth feel.  But, my husband has solved that problem with scratch-made whipped cream, heavy on the vanilla, light on the sugar.  There’s no going back. Fresh sea bass, rainbow beets & marinated mozzarella pearls.  The marinade was herbed with basil from my window sill.  The tartar sauce was accented by chow chow canned by my mother with cucumbers & cabbage grown this year.  The only things not fresh were the olive oil, Himalayan salt & Moroccan red pepper.  Is it Spring? Unfortunately not. just the day after a trip to the farmers market.  In my dream world, I would live within walking distance of a fresh market so that every meal could be this wonderful.  This next Call wants to know what fills you with wonder.  Take a look…
