MY WALLET

I am frugal, or cheap, depending on your viewpoint. I spend more on food each month than I do on rent, electricity and water combined.  Ouch.  One of the ways I combat the food bill is the local farmers’ market.  We have lots of apple orchards in Tennessee, and one of them, Carver’s (pictured left), also features a farmer’s market.  It is my first stop before going to the grocery store.  This next call invites you to share a single image or your agricultural influence.  Make me proud…

Check out this Call for Entries for Your American Farmer Photo Contest, a FREE online photo competition from Photographer Paul Mobley, the Darkroom Gallery (Essex Junction, VT), and Hoodman.  There is no entry fee and LOTS of great prizes.  Take a look…

American Farmer
Photo Contest

Photographer Paul Mobley traveled the country documenting America’s unsung heroes of industry and agriculture in his book: “American Farmer: Portraits of the Heartland”. What began as a break from his commercial photography soon became a journey which led Mobley down a path of self-discovery with a renewal in his passion for making images.

Mobley’s work for American Farmer was recently optioned for presentation as a feature-length documentary. The film goes deep into our nation’s agricultural heartland to tell the personal stories of the indomitable men and women who literally sustain us all. Dubbed “American Farmer” by its producers, the documentary will launch followed by a national PBS broadcast.

Mobley would like you to share your experiences with the country’s beautiful agriculture, farm, farmer’s market and garden world. Capturing your favorite fall harvest scene, summer fruit stand, farmer’s market or road-side stand, share your view this country’s beautiful landscape, agriculture and harvest. Contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers from across the country.

 BEAT ME AGAIN

Sometimes it take me multiple tries to learn a lesson.  For example, I am not a good baker.  It has taken many failed attempts at breads, muffins and biscuits for me to come to grips with this unfortunate reality.  And lately, the same is true with art.  How many times do I have to watch my friends and collegues revel in their successful publication attempts and the resulting opportunitites before I quit missing out?  No more for me.  And, that is why I keep beating the egg of art publication over and over…because I know eventually you will listen.  Here is a great Art Publication opportunity.  Don’t miss it…

In french cooking, sauce and knife skills are the beginning of all knowledge.  You would be simply amazed by how many sauces start with a basic hollandaise.   Similarly, horses are the foundation of many an art class.  I had an art teacher that once said to me, “If you can master sketching a the complex form of the majestic horse, all of art is at your fingertips.”  I never mastered sketching a horse, but I can make a mean hollandaise.  Luckily, this next Call doesn’t require that I SKETCH a horse.
