CALL for ENTRIES: Strange Figurations

Learn more about Strange Figurations from SlowArt Productions and the Limner Gallery!EGG-BASED love

My kid loves quiche.  He requests it for every special occasion–from birthdays to graduations.  The secret is 6 eggs to 2 cups of heavy whipping cream for a deep dish, and don’t talk to me about the fat.  Really.  He rarely cares what’s in it, but when I’m looking for brownie points, I throw in bacon and/or pepperoni.  I do it for the look on his face.  How strange it is to see him look lovingly at a brunch food.  This next Call is looking for your strange figurations–and not just the faces.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from SlowArt Productions for Strange Figurations. Awards include an exhibit at Limner Gallery (NY) & work in the nationally-distributed magazine, Direct Art. Double duty opportunity…

CALL for ENTRIES: On The Road

pa-tah-to

Road trips are not great for the fit of my performance clothing.  My husband and I are musicians, and we have a lot of shows for the summer.  Many of those shows require a drive of at least a few hours.  That means road food.  The danger is that I will eat french fries at every stop, punctuated by the occasional order of homemade potato chips.  I eat the eggs at Waffle House just to have an excuse to eat the hashbrowns.  I have a potato problem.  Can you tell.  it is going to be a long summer, ha.  This next Call is all about being on the road–not just the food that accompanies a road trip.  Take a look…

“What do you want for dinner?”  I have learned to truly detest those six words.  I appreciate choices, but I struggle with unlimited choices.  After 16 years, my husband has learned to ask, “Do you want a steak-topped salad or roasted chicken for dinner?”  That decision, I can make.  This next Call hasn’t narrowed it down for you, but I’m hoping you’re better at decision making than I am.  Plus, I suspect you’ll just  love this magazine…

I’m on the lookout for a horned melon aka an African cucumber.  I tried one many years ago and remember the flavors of lemon, banana and cucumber, but because they are exceedingly rare, I can’t find one locally.  I suspect if I find one in the South, it will probably be imported and unripe.  Those tend to just taste like banana.  Keep your fingers crossed, or send me one if you run across it.  In the meantime, the next Call is a very rare illustration call.  Take a look…

And unlike most show annuals that are on the bookshelves 3×3 Magazine’s annuals are prominently displayed on the newsstands in the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and parts of Asia where they are affordable to art directors and art buyers who may or may not be interested in illustration. There has been dramatic growth in the number of outlets stocking the 3×3 Magazine annual and the sales to art directors.

It is their mission to demonstrate the benefits of using illustration, this annual is their showcase.

me up

I am fat obsessed–not with the fat ON me but with the fat IN my food.  In October of 2013, I threw away my weight scales.  I’m done.  My familial relationship with diabetes and my allergy to wheat has forced a reduction of many of the starchy treats I have always loved.  But, beautiful, luscious fats like butter and coconut oil have increased to help ease the transition.  As a result, MY figure is changing–from the texture and tone of my skin to slow but steady reduction of my double chin.
