CALL for SUBMISSIONS: Bucktown Arts Fest

Learn more about the Bucktown Arts Fest Annual Poster contest!

say CHEESE

I can’t imagine how many times I have written the words “I love goat cheese”.  It is easy for me to for to write these posts and reveal my food soul and forget that people READ these posts.  But when I give career development seminars, I have readers that show up (thank you) and have conversations with me about food that remind me that people know way too much about what I eat, ha.  Recently at a seminar about branding yourself as an artist, I had someone bring me goat’s milk soap since they couldn’t keep goat’s milk cheese cold. ♥  This next Call doesn’t have a lot of requirements, but one of them is that your design must include a goat.  No, I’m not kidding.

Check out this Call for Submissions from Bucktown Arts Fest (Chicago, IL) for Annual Poster Contest.  This is a great resume builder for the winner. Take a look…

Learn more about the Windows edition of Don't Take Pictures!clink CLINK

Except for a few specialty pieces, I’ve always owned white dishes.  I love color, but food has always been the creative expression for me –even when my husband spent two years as a commercial potter.  In recent years, we’ve begun slumping glass part time in a kiln shed built onto our back deck.  I am intrigued by the patterns and textures and colors as they meld together.  It make me want to make a different sheet of glass for every window in my house.  This next Call is a salute to that very visual framework.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: Garden Realm

POINSETTIAs

Holiday meals at our house are inevitably eaten around a floral centerpiece, or more commonly, a potted plant.  But, for love of our dogs, there hasn’t been a poinsettia in our home for a couple of decades.  Instead, we keep a Christmas cactus or two year round.  The only rule of thumb is to treat them badly.  My mother didn’t water hers for a year, left it on the front porch during multiple early cold snaps.  She pulled it in  & watered it mid-October, and it was gorgeous just in time for Thanksgiving.  So, as a rule, don’t eat your floral holiday centerpieces, but a Christmas cactus might protect your pets if they get the munchies.  This next Call is looking for your perspective on flowers this winter.  Take a look…

My son is learning to cook.  More accurately, my husband & I are forcing our son to cook dinner once per week.  He has shown no really interest in producing meals–only eating them.  So, we are not giving him an option.  My concern is that if he doesn’t learn how, he’ll be forced to eat commercially-processed crap his entire life.  He doesn’t like cooking.  Doing anything solo the first time is scary, but my kiddo has turned it into a pressure-cooked affair.  Let’s hope it gets easier.  This next Call is YOUR chance to do art solo.  Don’t stress, just submit a proposal…
