CALL for ENTRIES: 2019 Miami Art Basel Edition

Learn more about the 2019 Miami Art Basel Edition from Create! Magazine.

fair FARE

When’s the last time you ate a candied apple?  I haven’t had one in a while either.  Every year I am tempted at the Tennessee Valley Fair to at least have a caramel apple, but I chicken out every time.  I mean, I’m not afraid of the sugar-draped fruit, but it seem like a commitment.  It’s not like I can eat it with a knife and fork in deliberate portions; you have to sink into it teeth first, knowing you may end up wearing it face, fingers, clothing and all.  I’m not ready.

This next call is a worthy pursuit on its own, but it is also a measured solution to the art fair.  When’s the last time you contemplated participating in an art fair like Art Basel?  One option is to venture out on your own, which can be very expensive & risky if you aren’t in the right place for that opportunity.  Another possibility is going as a part of a group or gallery, which still involves costly production like framing and shipping with no guarantee of sales.  If you’re not ready for either of those options, this call from Create! Magazine gives you an opportunity to reach the Miami art week audience without the commitment to a booth.  Their curatorial history proves you’ll be in excellent company.  Think about it.

Check out this Call for Entries from Create! Magazine (print publication) for the Miami Art Basel Edition.  The 3rd Annual Art Miami Edition will be released during 2019 Miami Art Week in December, available in international shop locations & during VIP preview night at Art Miami Fairs.  Don’t miss this chance…

Some taste aversions are simply irreversible.  Whole cherry tomatoes and catfish–never again.  I bit into a rotten cherry tomato once. Now they have to be cut in half or I can’t even think about eating them without gagging.  I won’t tell the catfish story so I don’t ruin a perfectly good fish for anyone.  I have absolutely NO aversion to this irreversible Call.  Take a look…

I don’t eat pine.

I enjoy the occasional Murder Mystery Dinner show, but I never want the mystery to be WHAT I am eating.  I have fairly adventurous taste in food, but I still want the courtesy of knowing what I am putting in my mouth.  For some reason, more than one chef has said to me, “I made it special for you, just try it.”  99% of the time they are right; however, for the occasional 1%, I have this to say to the chef, “If you had just TOLD me there were pine nuts in the wild boar dish, I could have spared you the public “ick” face when I tried it.”  So there.  This next Call is not really a Mystery for YOU, despite the name.  Investigate for yourself…

Check out this Call for Entries for the 2011 Masters Mystery Art Show from Florida International University (Miami, FL).  This is an all-hung exhibit that won’t cost you an entry fee, but WILL cost you the donation of a 6×9 work on paper.  Take a look…

The Masters’ Mystery Art Show (MMAS) is an international annual art event featuring over 1000 artworks by more than 500 artists from 31 countries around the globe. It includes nationally and internationally recognized artists, many brilliant emerging artists, as well as a number of celebrities from other fields.  The MMAS was developed to benefit Florida International University’s Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts Program.   This event coincides with Art Basel and takes place at the Ritz-Carlton, Miami Beach.

The list of contributing artists, including a host of well-established names, will be widely publicized in advance.  Adding to the excitement will be the participation of renowned celebrities in different disciplines and selected local students will compliment the roster. The “mystery” is that the name of the artist for each work is kept secret during the exhibition, only to be revealed at the completion of the sale.  Thus the public is invited to “play detective” as they try to identify the artist – and be the first to buy the best!

Learn more about the Master Mystery Art Show from Florida International University!ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists.

MEDIA:  All exhibited works will be originals in a 6” x 9” format and will sell for the fixed price of $50.

DEADLINE:  Submitted artwork must be received by November 15th, 2011.

I love Cuban food.  The first time I ate Cuban food was in a strip mall in Goose Creek, SC just outside Charleston …no kidding.  With a strong military influence in the area before the shut down of the military base and the naval yard, international influence on food was pretty common.  The best Cuban food I ever tasted was in Miami and is responsible for my love affair with plaintains.  This next Call offers you an opportunity to sample some of the best food in the world during your time at this opening…

I never cease to be amazed at how often I trip across artist opportunities when on a completely different mission to find source or inspiration material for my own work.  While searching for some reference material to shoot my last piece “Greed” for the series Pyschomachia that I’ve been working on with Arizona Artist Jerry Portelli, I tripped across this great call for the Seven Deadly Sins from Miami’s Bakehouse Art Complex.

Call for Entries:  ¡Sin!

A national juried exhibition of original work inspired by a traditional concept of human transgressions. Lust, envy, gluttony, sloth, greed, wrath and pride have had an enormous impact on the moral compass of the modern world. Check out the Bakehouse Art Complex! The Bakehouse Art Complex located in the Wynwood Arts District, Miami FL is announcing a Call to Artists for ¡SIN!  to be on view during the world renowned art fair Art Basel Miami 2010.

In its 2,600 square foot gallery, the artists, chosen by a reputable panel of curators, will display their works that are directly related to one of the deadly sins.

Each of the seven sins is explored, from their origins and nature, their opposing virtue, and their corresponding punishment through a variety of media and styles from across the country.

Check out all of the Artist Opportunities at Miami's Bakehouse Art Complex!Applicants will have the opportunity to present their work to a highly distinguished panel of jurors consisting of Museum and respected Art Professionals from Miami.
