JURORS: Sharon Arnold is the co-owner & Director of Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle, WA. She studied at Pratt Institute in NY & graduated from Cornish College of the Arts, focusing on sculpture, art history & philosophy. She launched Bridge Productions, a publication company focusing on artist catalogues, literary chapbooks, and a quarterly subscription project; and founded LxWxH Gallery located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle before coming on as partner at Roq La Rue in 2014. Jerry Beck is an artist, educator, and community leader. He is the Founder/Artistic Director of The Revolving Museum (TRM) a nomad arts organization that revitalizes underutilized public space with interdisciplinary and collaborative art. Beck has a BFA from Florida State University & a MFA from Tufts University-School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

AWARDS: Each accepted entry will be featured in a fully illustrated, handbound, hardcover catalogue of the exhibit. Each accepted artist will receive one copy of the catalogue. Cash prizes are allocated by the jurors.

I will put salt & pepper on anything. Years of deliberate pause has taught me that not all things need salt, but it has been a hard lesson to learn. I have super-low blood pressure (70 over 40, no really), and my doctor surmises that I just self-medicate with salt. Who knows? Changing from the black & white of salt and pepper to the pink of Himalayian salt and red/green of whole peppercorns in grinders really helped me break the habit. JUROR: Christiane Paul is Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she has curated several exhibitions, including Cory Arcangel: Pro Tools (2011), Profiling (2007), Data Dynamics (2001) and the net art selection for the 2002 Whitney Biennial, as well as artport, the Whitney Museum’s website devoted to Internet art. Dr. Paul is Associate Professor in the School of Media Studies at The New School in New York City.

AWARDS: BEST of SHOW GOLD: $1000 – At the Opening Reception, the artist whose work is juried as ‘Best of Show’ by Christiane Paul will receive a $1000 cash prize. ‘Best of Show Silver’ will receive a $500 cash prize. Work voted ‘Best’ by attendees during the course of the show will receive a $250 cash. The artist whose work the Show Curators choose for excellence will receive a $250 cash prize. $100 each for ten winners of Certificates of Recognition.

Ariano has curated shows at the Somers Historical Society and at independent galleries, most recently: the Front Street Gallery in Patterson, NY. She is an inspired photographer, whose work has been exhibited in Manhattan, the Catskills, the Hudson Valley, and select galleries in Connecticut.

More and more people are farming. There may be fewer commercial farms, but I find that more and more people are taking the time to grow something. Not everything; just something. This image (left) is from the Facebook feed of a friend of mine in the suburbs of Charleston, WV who is sprouting garlic for container gardening on his back patio. He planted tomato seedlings in between the sprouted cloves. It isn’t a huge endeavor, but he’ll have the best salsa of anyone in his neighborhood this summer. LOVE. So I picked a peck of peppers today. Not really. But I did buy a bushel of apples out of cold storage from my local orchard. I just couldn’t wait any longer for a sensory overload. I usually wait for the first bite of sauteed ramps, but that wasn’t enough this year. So, I am home with a bushel of Mountain York’s. This week will be filled with the making of apple sauce, apple chips, apple butter, and fresh apples in everything from chicken salad to peanut butter sandwiches and pancakes. Most people associate Georgia with peaches, or maybe peanuts (thanks to Jimmy Carter), but I always think of barbeque ribs or creamy lobster bisque. Random, I know. I grew up in a suburb of Atlanta as a young girl, and barbeque ribs were a standard at least one night a week during the summer. My son is learning to cook. More accurately, my husband & I are forcing our son to cook dinner once per week. He has shown no really interest in producing meals–only eating them. After concluding an internship at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, she moved to New York City in 2012. Her interest in conceptual and socially-engaged art led her to stints at Artists Space and Creative Time, in addition to her role as curatorial assistant for a new Center for Art & Urbanism in Dallas. Smith lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan.

AWARDS: All submissions received will be considered not only for Show #25, but also for future exhibitions at Field Projects and a coinciding online exhibition to Show #25.
