THEME: The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is looking for artists who incorporate the themes of science fiction, fantasy & the surreal in their works.

ENTRY FEE: $30 for up to 3, $5 ea. add’l

JUROR: Wendy Martin is an internationally known children’s book illustrator and fantasy artist. Her art has strong graphic leanings reminiscent of Alphonse Mucha’s Art Nouveau works. The media she uses to complete her paintings are both traditional and digital: mainly watercolor, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. She has a love of patterns and textiles, which also show up in her illustrations.

AWARDS: Cash awards will be given for Best of Show $500, 2nd Place $300 & 3rd Place $200.

SALES: Every effort is made to promote sales. The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will retain a 30% commission.

Events have left me at home alone for lunch most days lately. I’m not good at eating alone. I’ll adjust eventually, but for now it is bananas & peanut butter or pasta with butter & parm. I don’t do food solo easily, but art is a much easier solo option. This next Call is a great outlet for solo work. Plus, it comes with a little bit of budget.

Sheldon Scott, a native of Pawley’s Island, SC, received his B.S. in Psychology from Francis Marion University. After years as a psychotherapist, he began a creative life as a Storyteller, Artist, Actor & Writer in 2005.

Marta Staudinger completed her master’s degree in curatorial studies in Barcelona. In 2015, she founded the LATELA Art Gallery in D.C., where she devotes her time to managing artists, organizing exhibitions & selling contemporary art.

AWARDS: The individual or group associated with the chosen proposal will receive a solo exhibition at Target Gallery from July 13 – September 3, 2017 + a $1,000 stipend.

SALES: A commission of 40% will be taken on all works sold as a result of this exhibition.

I don’t have enough time on my hands for all the thyme I have on my hands. Thyme grows year ’round indoors, and my window sill herb pot has gone crazy. I have dried it. I have pureed it. I have infused oil. I have frozen it, and I have given it away. I can’t bring myself to throw it away. I’m hoping it will make a beautiful ground cover. My landscape will taste wonderful. The greens are emerging. Many of you know that I live in Gatlinburg and wildfires recently swept the area. Firefighters stopped the fire a mere 6′ from my doorstep.
