People want to grow their own food.  It may be a fad, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that it sticks around.  There are really viable options even for those of us living in tiny spaces– from baby beetroot & dwarf kale to miniature eggplant & bell peppers.  They can all be grown in containers from seed.  You too, can tend a garden.  This next Call is all about the miniatures too.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Heartland Art Guild for the 13th Annual Miniature Show at the Miami Co. Historical Museum (Paola, KS).  All hung, *$40 entry, 30% commission & juried cash awards.  I love this opportunity…

Learn more about the 9 x12 Works on Paper Exhibit from Fort Worth Community Art Center!PEPPERS
only smaller

My whole house smells like peppers & basil at the moment.  A recent Saturday trip to the farmers market ended with a huge surplus of these staples, but to prevent loss, I am dehydrated both.  Then I will grind, chop or crumble most of these into a smaller form for storage and use this winter.  This next Call could be an outlet for new work, but it could be an excellent way to compact and move out studies or older work.  I encourage you to contemplate cutting down your work.  Yes, I DID say, “cutting down your work”…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Fort Worth Community Arts Center (Fort Worth, TX) for 9×12 Works on Paper. This could be a great way to do a  little studio cleaning & resume building at the same time.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: The UN Show

MENU

Frequently, the most memorable kitchen creations are happy accidents.  As much as I love a list, theme and a plan, sometimes I find myself in a situation that forces me to create a masterpiece from what I have on hand or try something new on the spur of the moment.  My favorite chicken-cheddar-broccoli soup came about as a necessary use of what I could find in the frig.  Now it is a winter menu staple in our house. This next Call is a show that is both un-juried & un-curated, but I KNOW this organization.  It will definitely be a show not to be missed, and you can be a part of it.  Please investigate this one…

Check out this Call for Entries from The Haggus Society (Los Angeles) for The UN Show.  Enter for only $12.50 or FREE if you’re a member.  This is a great resume builder…

Click Here to Subscribe to ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email! When I moved to the Great Smoky Mountains a few years ago, my family made a commitment to becoming more attuned to our surroundings and spending more time in the Great Outdoors.  My family has tried gardening–no easy feat on the side of a mountain–as well as hiking, white water rafting and more.  Why not bike riding?  This Call for Entries is a great resume builder because it is a non-juried (all hung) show and promotes Bikes for the World too!

Here’s the Call for Entries for
Biketastic
An Art Show Inspired by Bicycles

Read the full Call for Entries for Biketastic by the Soundry!“Biketastic” is an art show for all mediums inspired by bicycles!  This show is meant to feature art that represents the many nuances of bike culture; from bikes for commuting, racing and pleasure rides to those who ride them for economic, and environmental reasons.

The Soundry’s proximity to the Washington & Old Dominion Trail gives the area a lot of “bike traffic.”  As a result, they see first hand what an important role biking plays in many people’s lives.  Smartly enought…they have also noticed that bike enthusiasts like bike related art!

This show is open to all mediums and will bring with it many bike-centered events from organized “rides” to film screenings, and a fashion show.  The opening of the arts show will benefit Bikes for the World!

Commit to Submit Form Here! “Biketastic” is unjuried.  The submission fee is $20 and artists may submit up to 3 pieces.  All work must be for sale and ready to hang or display.

Submissions are due by July 21, 2010.

Delivery of art work is due to The Soundry by July 28th.

The Gallery at the Soundry

Visit The Soundry online! The gallery at The Soundry occupies about one quarter of their total space. It’s a rough-around-the-edges kind of space with good lighting and comfortable seating.

They hang their member’s artwork in this area and offer it for sale. This is the place to go in Vienna, Virginia if you’re looking for work from emerging artists, or if you just want to kick back, sip a latte, and take in some new sights.

The artwork in the gallery changes regularly, and a large portion of their gallery space is set aside for installation works.

The garage atmosphere and undergound, working-studio feel give visitors an experience they’re guaranteed not to find anywhere in the region.
