something SALAD

For most people, the concept of salad is abstract at best –egg, chef, Caesar, Cobb, chicken.  Something loosely defined by intent but not really definable.  You can’t order a salad & know what you’ll get because everyone brings their own meaning to “salad”.  Lately it always means spinach, mushrooms, strawberries & feta, but my mother jumps directly to the three bean variety.  This next Call is waiting for what you will bring to abstract.  Don’t miss your chance…

ELIGIBILITY: All artists age 18+

MEDIA:   Open to still media, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, digital, prints, fiber art, collage, etc.

THEME: Abstract “The artwork must be based on abstraction, where the subject or message is pushed to visual limits of abstraction so that there is little or no representation of the real world (as in nonrepresentational). The submitted artwork can be of any subject that is communicated in the power of abstraction. The composition elements of the work must rely on form, color, action, lines, marks, and texture to create a purely abstract work that engages the viewer and draws them into the intention of the artist’s work.”

DEADLINE:  August 6, 2018

NOTIFICATION:  August 14, 2018

ENTRY FEE:  $20 for 1, $10 ea. add’l

AWARDS:  $8,125 in cash & marketing prizes.  (e.g. 1st place $500, 2nd Place $400, 3rd Place $300, etc) + helpful marketing. There will be 7 Winners and 10 Honorable Mentions.
