DOUBLE

Do you know what is better than fresh, local fruits & vegetables? Twice as many fresh local fruits & vegetables.  Have you heard about a program that is slowly spreading throughout farmers’ markets & co-ops in the U.S. called Double Bucks?  It seems just about right that it would be folks dedicated to fresh food that would figure out how to get it into the hands of people who need it–affordably.  Double the veggies might be the only thing better than the doubled cash prizes in this next Call.  Make us proud…

Check out this Call for Entries from Art-Competition.net (online) for Still Life II.  The cash prizes are DOUBLED for this one!  Take a look

The Still Life art is an under estimated art genre, the art is usually quiet & subtle in its communication, however it’s narrative can speak volumes about a culture, a society or a lifestyle. – Edward Burke

for whiners

I think people drink more wine at the holidays because of all the whining.  Wine won’t stop people FROM whining, but it will certainly help you tune them out.  Bitching, when done correctly, can’t be tuned out–regardless of wine consumption.  This next Call is all about the bitching, but I suspect the wine is welcome too.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries for the B*tchfest Juried Exhibition located Upstairs At The Market Gallery (Los Angeles, CA). The entry fee is ONLY $12.50 for 6 images. I am a card-carrying Hag, and I don’t want you to miss this opportunity!

A note from the Haggus Society: The Haggus Society recognizes that many women will be offended by our use of the word bitch. We feel that in order to change a culture, you must change the language. To that end, we are claiming ownership of Bitch and other terms of empowerment.

CALL for ENTRIES: Storybook Fragments

and beans

Children are picky eaters.  No matter how many green beans you feed them as toddlers, the chances are good that they will go through a chicken fingers & fries stage.  We all assume it is because their taste buds haven’t evolved.  But research indicates that a child’s taste buds are MORE sensitive than adults. My kid will eat brussel sprouts now.  The war has been won, or the taste buds have dulled.  Who knows?  This next call is all about the child’s perspective.  Take a look…

For this exhibition, Naming Ceremony is looking for art for children that seems to be part of a larger narrative.  They want art the invites a young child’s imagination to expand the narrative beyond what they see in the picture, to get them thinking about what the meanings are “between the lines” and allow them to grow from the experience.  Send in your best interpretation of this initiative while making sure it is child-friendly.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA:  All two-dimensional media will be considered

I am intrigued by how menu items get there names.  Wouldn’t restaurants have it easier if they could just put “Mc” in front of any item and make it a hot ticket?  It works for the golden arches.  Did you know that some locations actually sell the “McLobster sandwich”?  Really?  Google it.  This next call has little to do with naming things except for their name, but check it out anyway…
