CALL for ENTRIES: Health & Medicine

Learn more about the Health and Medicine salon exhibit at The Passporte gallery! medical EDIBLE florals

Lavender infused whipped cream is a favorite treat in my house.  But at the moment, I am growing lavender in a window sill for my husband’s head.  The weather has been so beautiful that I’ve been leaving the doors open without benefit of screen doors, and every night mosquitoes make a meal of Jon’s forehead.  Lavender is both a sleep-inducing aromatic and a mosquito repellent.  So, homemade lavender-infused coconut oil is my medicinal hope for continuing to enjoy open doors.  This next Call wants your perspective on health & medicine, but it doesn’t have to be edible.  Plus,  free entry…

Check out this Call for Entries from The Passporte for Health & Medicine.  No entry fee, but only one entry per artist.  This is a timely curatorial theme too.  Take a look…

FRUIT-ish

Aside from an occasional banana or orange, most of my fruit experiences as a kid were of the fruit cocktail variety.  But as an adult, I have come to appreciate the singular special-ness of fruit on its own.  I almost (just almost) prefer it to chocolate.  It does not have the richness added by fat content, but it has a simplicity that I find equally decadent. Simple and sweet. This next call is also a simple opportunity with big payoff.  This could be right for you…

CALL for ENTRIES: 2 Elizabeths

Cover Art wanted by 2 Elizabeths magazine!the MISSING middle

I enjoy creative process.  I find it meditative.  My own visual work requires lots of repetition.  I like to knit.  More repetition.  I have a handful of favorite recipes. Even more repetition.  As a result, I often end up in looping rut of repetition.  In the kitchen, I break the sameness by trying a recipe outside my comfort zone. (Today gumbo, tomorrow doughnuts;)  When working visually, I find a themed Call that dictates the inspiration not only helps me start a new piece, but it sometimes marks the beginning of a whole new direction.  This Call is a paying opportunity too, which I appreciate albeit meager.  Maybe it is right for you…

Check out this Call for Entries from 2 Elizabeths magazine for Cover Art. Only $5 to enter. Even if you don’t win the cover spot, it is a great way to jump start your creativity this winter.  Take a look…

“I sculpt beasts that tell stories. Brian Somerville

French philosopher Albert Camus once said, “A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world.”  But, I’ve always believed that we create the majority of beasts of this world from our anxiety and worry and imagination.  The beasts of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Brian Somerville, guide us through fear with a little humor.

will not believe in him.”

I find it is often the monsters of the imagination that delight us as children, but the reality of those monsters sometimes haunt us in adulthood.  The “Animal Abecedary” of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Leslie Haines, reminds us that “A” can be for “Apple”, but it can also be for “Alligator”.  Check out the full series!
