BENEDICT

I don’t share well.  I never have.  I like to believe it is an only-child-thing, but I’ll stab your hand with a fork if you get too close to my plate during some dishes–Eggs Benedict, for example.  Just ask my kid; it doesn’t leave marks, but apparently it is memorable, ha.  Regarding this next Call, I need you to be generous and share.  I hope this Call is just the opportunity YOU want.  But if it isn’t, please share it far and wide so that this dream doesn’t go unrealized for someone out there.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Applications from VisArts (Rockville, MD) for VisArts Emerging Curator Program 2015.  For those of you with curatorial vision but needing additional experience, this is a rare chance to learn with a budget…

MENU

Frequently, the most memorable kitchen creations are happy accidents.  As much as I love a list, theme and a plan, sometimes I find myself in a situation that forces me to create a masterpiece from what I have on hand or try something new on the spur of the moment.  My favorite chicken-cheddar-broccoli soup came about as a necessary use of what I could find in the frig.  Now it is a winter menu staple in our house. This next Call is a show that is both un-juried & un-curated, but I KNOW this organization.  It will definitely be a show not to be missed, and you can be a part of it.  Please investigate this one…

City life means access to international food.  I’m meant to live in the country.  It is just the way I am wired.  My town has a population of approximately 3500 people.  The downside?  The only thing close to international fare is Thai (which I love), Mexican, Italian & Japanese.  When someone suggests a trip to Asheville (about an hour from me), I start salivating for the taste of goat skewers.  I don’t see bumper to bumper traffic or crowded parking lots or tall office buildings.  That’s my perspective.  This next Call wants YOUR views on city life.  Take a look…

I’ve been toying with the idea of making cheese.  I have had a 30+ year love affair with cheese–cow to sheep to goat.  Does anyone think I can convince Jon that we can raise and milk cows, sheep & goats, plus make cheese in addition to the blogging, art, singing & house renovation?  It isn’t what we normally do, but we can learn, right?  I am going to start with a cow’s milk mozzarella. Wish me luck.  This next Call may, or may not, involve media with which YOU are familiar, but I think you should take a look either way…

I’ve become a casual fan of Naked & Afraid (the TV show).  When flipping through the channels, I keep tripping across the reruns.  For those of you non-watchers.  Two people (1 man, 1 woman) that have never met who are dropped in a remote location for 21 days with nothing–not even clothes. I am dumbfounded by what they will eat.  If you’re hungry enough, I supposes giant crickets (maybe it was a grasshopper) look delicious.  Bizarre.  Here’s a Call for all things bizarre.  Maybe even crickets…

While traveling recently, I was forced to choose between two “American” restaurants as my only options.  According to these menus, American fare is defined as steak, baked potatoes, boiled vegetables, hamburgers & fries.  I am puzzled by that summation.  How does a country so rich with ethnic variety get distilled down to steak and potatoes?  This next Call wants your ideas on your origin from you perspective; food could be an interesting viewpoint.  Take a look…
