Video-Gang Collective is seeking electronic art work for the pilot screening of a series of Screenings that explore the relationship between the moving image and sound. Works that engage and push the boundaries of sensory perceptions are sought.

The series of screens begins with SoundVision I which be held at The Shop in Richmond, Va.   All work will be screened to the public on the evening of Monday, April 2, 2012.   Reception to follow.

Curators Elisabeth Murray and Jonathan Brantley, in collaboration with from Rogue Video and Performance seek video art to be projected out-of-doors in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. This event will take place in the area beneath the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, between Meeker and Union Avenues on May 3rd from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.

THEME: Gentrification

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists.

MEDIA:  Artists must submit their videos in DVD, .mpeg, .avi or .mov formats with an aspect ratio of 4:3. Videos cannot exceed 5 minutes in duration.

My non-art related work place is The Lodge at Buckberry Creek, a resort in the Great Smoky Mountains patterned after the Great Camps of the Adirondacks in upstate New York. The Lodge is a 4-Diamond resort and home to the only fine dining in Gatlinburg. So for me, the idea of the Adirondacks conjures images of hand-oiled leather couches, animal hide rugs, wood-burning fires and warm mulled cider. Thanks to this annual call, it also reminds me of phenomenal art opportunities as well!  The holidays are in the air…

I am always amazed by how a simple ingredient can be transformed into a magnificent dish.  Root vegetables are the perfect example.  Who would of thought that something that spent most of the time it has existed under the ground could be transformed into something beautiful, warm and nutty?  I think of a luscious crock of roasted carrot soup with a hint of ginger and nutmeg.  This Call wants you to contemplate transformation.  Give it a try…

JUROR: Alexandra Schwartz is the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Montclair Art Museum where she is currently organizing a series of solo exhibitions and a major traveling exhibition, New Order: Art and Politics in the 1990s (Fall 2013).  She was previously the coordinator of The Museum of Modern Art’s Modern Women’s Project and curator of Mind and Matter: Alternative Abstractions, 1940 to Now at MoMA PS1.

Schwartz is the author of Ed Ruscha’s Los Angeles (MIT Press, 2010) and has contributed to various journals, anthologies and exhibition catalogues. She has taught at Columbia University and in the Education Departments at MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and a B.A. from Harvard University

This is not a film festival for film-makers, so much as it is an film event for everyone. They believe there is magic in seeing a film print projected, a presence a poet has when reading their own work, a feeling that resonates in your chest when seeing music performed live. For these reasons they encourage live film with live additional audio/visual elements.

ELIGIBILITY: Open internationally. Dancers, Sculptors, Musicians, Theorists, Scientists, Athletes, Visual artists, everyone, AND Film-makers are encouraged to submit.

Dessert wines are one of my many guilty pleasures.  Biscotti is not just for dipping into your espresso.  I’ll take a lovely glass of vin santo with the lingering taste of honey and apricots with a touch of cream.  Keep your coffee or espresso (which traditionally comes before vin santo BTW).  If you end up at the opening of the collective exhibit for this next Call, have a glass for me.  Better yet, bring me a bottle of vin santo back as a souvenir…it beats a t-shirt anytime!

Learn more about the Arte Prize Laguna!The 6th International Arte Laguna Prize 2011 is dedicated to visual artists worldwide.  Prizes amount to 170,000 euros total, and 7,000 in each sector (nearly $10,000 USD), but besides money Arte Laguna Prize offers many opportunities to artists, such as art residencies, personal exhibitions in galleries, collective exhibitions, and attendance at international festivals. There are no limits for age, theme, or topic.
