Prior to the Whitney, Phipps worked in the curatorial department & director’s office of the Modern Art Museum, Fort Worth. She received her MA, Art History at Hunter College, CUNY & BFA, Studio Art & BS, Psychology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.

AWARDS: Gold $1000 Purchase Award, Silver $250, 8 $100 Certificates of Recognition.

She is currently at work on the first U.S. survey of Mark Dion’s work to open in 2017. Erickson received her Ph.D. in art history from the University of Pennsylvania in 2014 and has published and presented her writing widely. She serves as a visiting critic at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

an imperfect PLACE for food

My kitchen table drama is ongoing. It is a 45″ round pedestal-style table with a black, faux-milkpaint finish. Black shows every speck, and that’s worse when your driveway is gravel (or, in my case, not a great housekeeper). Every time I clean the table, the stain of of the finish comes off a little more and the chairs are a misery. It gets used as a makeshift desk, studio worktable & only an occasional serving surface, so I can’t bring myself to get rid of it. My mother’s solution was to quilt a new set of wedge-shaped placements. All better, right? Gotta love her optimism. This next Call won’t make everything better either, but it is a lovely improvement. I believe in food as medicine. Like a lot of you, I have a couple of chronic health conditions that require medication, including cough-variant asthma.
