I dream of rainbow colored foods.  No doubt you’ve read more than one of my artificial food coloring rants. I have a tiny refrigerator.  Well, let me re-phrase that.  I have a small (by American standards) full-size refrigerator. When I down-sized to a smaller home in preparation for a more mobile existence, my refrigerator shrank too.  Luckily, my new smaller home & its appliances are located only 5 minutes from the grocery store which is a marked improvement from the 20+ minutes it took before I moved.  As a result, I can now by produce more often & store it outside of my new, tiny-to-me refrigerator, making for fresher, tastier meals.   This next Call wants to know about your botanicals, but they don’t have to be edible.  Take a look…

AWARDS:  The curator chooses 1st place, 2nd place & 3 honorable mentions. The 1st place winner will receive a review by one or more curators including a Q&A about the photographer’s work. In addition, their image will be on the home page for a month. 2nd place & honorable mentions will have their image shown along with their bio, artist statement, C.V. and a link back to their website.

My grandmother lived with Alzheimer’s; her mother lived with Alzheimer’s.  Every lost memory scares the wits out of me. Logically, I know that wasting my lucid years worrying about a feared eventuality of non-lucidity is just the most stupid waste of a lifetime, but some days it gets the better of me.  The work of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Kristen Brown, brought me to tears.  It is that blurred perception of reality, that soft focus of memories just out of reach that she captures so well.  Thanks for the perspective.

How many of you have a potted rosemary bush?  Mine is blooming a gorgeous array of little lavender flowers.  Did you know the flowers are edible?  If you love the taste of rosemary but find the texture & taste a little to strong for delicate foods like fish, try using the flowers instead.  They are softer in both mouth feel & potency and even make a beautiful garnish when flash fried.  This next call is looking for flora, and it doesn’t have to be edible.  Take a look…

Her work is in the collection of the National Park Service. She was a 2006 National Park Service artist-in-residence at Acadia National Park in Maine; and in 2015, was awarded an Individual Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council.
