CALL for ENTRIES: Collaboration

take two & call me after BREAKFAST

Food as medicine has been on my radar for a decade.  I appreciate the ability to attempt home remedies through food and supplements.  I am not suggesting it is easier, nor am I suggestion it is a solution for all ailments.  But, I am intrigued.  A family history of arthritis, combined with years of a slight addiction to towering high heels, has resulted in massive joint pain in one of feet.  Flair ups are completely manageable with a combination of tart cherries & massive quantities of vitamin C.  Drug-resistant pediatric epilepsy is now often treated by mainstream medicine with a ketogenic diet.  The collaboration between doctors and nutritionists is inspiring. This Call offers you the opportunity to collaborate with writers.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Art Labology for a Collaboration project between visual artists & writers.  No entry fee & possible art publication.  I like this opportunity…

ARTIST of the Day: Helen Green

a legend LOST

David Bowie influenced so much of the world — music, fashion, design.  He died Sunday after a long battle with cancer.  Today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Helen Green may have captured his sense of life and change and joy the best.  Thanks, Helen, for the bright spot in a dark day.

POINSETTIAs

Holiday meals at our house are inevitably eaten around a floral centerpiece, or more commonly, a potted plant.  But, for love of our dogs, there hasn’t been a poinsettia in our home for a couple of decades.  Instead, we keep a Christmas cactus or two year round.  The only rule of thumb is to treat them badly.  My mother didn’t water hers for a year, left it on the front porch during multiple early cold snaps.  She pulled it in  & watered it mid-October, and it was gorgeous just in time for Thanksgiving.  So, as a rule, don’t eat your floral holiday centerpieces, but a Christmas cactus might protect your pets if they get the munchies.  This next Call is looking for your perspective on flowers this winter.  Take a look…

Whether a walk down a garden path, or discovering fragile gentle beauty on a woodland trail, flowers have been a silent still and inspiring subject throughout time.  Flowers express love, celebrate rights of passage, such as marriage, birth and death, providing peace for the weary and comfort for the stressed.  They are the passion and tenderness of the lover.  Comfort for the grieving.” — lithamoon.com

I have never been a water drinker.  I prefer cold-brewed, black tea–decaf, no ice.  But, I do force myself to drink a few glasses a day.  But I never cease to be amazed by the bizarre marketing methods used to sell water to us at a premium.  You can buy water from melted icebergs, from springs at the base of Mt. Figi & even from the demilitarized zone between North & South Korea.  This next Call leaves the source of your water to you.  Take a look…

Our readership has exploded over the years, and I receive unbelievable amounts of wonderful email from you.  But, I would like to see you participate HERE.  Tell each other which opportunities, galleries & competitions.  Tell each other what works, what doesn’t.  Share this site with your friends by liking & sharing our Facebook & Twitter posts.  Share our site with a new artist & help them find the opportunities you have found through AAAD.  That would be the cherry on my celebratory sundae.  Take action to create community HERE, today.  And, don’t forget to help celebrate another anniversary with this next call too.  Take a look…

Most people, in my experience, believe that big cities, like D.C., offer the best in restaurant diversity.  And, while this is perhaps true, I find the best quality food experiences are in cities just outside these areas.  Take Alexandria, VA, for example.  Located just outside D.C., you’ll find everything from farm to table fresh offerings to gourmet comfort foods.  All the aspects of urban offerings in a slightly smaller setting.  This next Call offers an urban aspect, AND it hails from Alexandria too.
