Æbleskivers

I have a food bucket list.  it is a sort of dream-list of foods & food-related activities to try before I die.  Norsk Høstfest is on that list.  With the exception of danish pastries & rice pudding, Scandinavian food gets a bad rap.  I want Viking-on-a-Stick & Danish Aebelskivers, thank you very much.  This next Call comes from North Dakota, home to Norsk Høstfest.  It may just be fate…

Check out this Call for Entries from Bismarck Art & Galleries Association (Bismark, ND) for the Square Foot exhibit.  $25 entry pays for 2 canvases & having them shipped to you.  Take a look…

QUANTITIES

I’ve learned not to limit myself with numbers.  One protein, 1 starch, 1 veggie is simply an outline, not a rule.  Ask Baskin Robbins®–they once thought 31 flavors was the end all be all.  Heinz® used to boast 57 varieties; they now have over 5,700.  This next Call is number 58, and I’m confident it won’t be the last.  Take a look…

CUT YOU

I used to be the queen of the hand cut garnish and/or decorative knife skills.  I think tournée-cut potatoes simply taste better; I do.  But, my recent cooking laziness has forced me to return to a more fresh-cut approach, like carambola (star fruit).  I’ve looked at them decoratively for so many years, I’d forgotten how delicious they really are.  I have not forgotten how delicious the magazine hosting this next Call is however.  I’m thrilled to have them as a sponsor, and I wash bowled over when I received my last hard copy.  Simply beautiful (and tasty)

Check out this Call for Entries from Fresh Paint Magazine (online) for Issue 4.  Low entry fee & simply gorgeous.  Show ’em your strokes…

you too

Only a very small handful of my friends will abide long debates about varietal olive oils.  My favorite varietal is made from Frantoio olives. Frantoio olives are widely used in Tuscan olive oils–peppery and bitter and pungent and a bit grassy.  Just a few of my food freaky friends will stick around for these debates because we are peas in a pod.  This next Call is for peas of the painting pod.  Take a look…

KEIRCE pursued a corporate career while building a business painting commissions—found in private collections the world over. Keirce then focused on galleries & museums. Drawn to small format, she began accumulating awards. She prefers urban landscapes & still life with a Trompe L’Oeil & photo-realism influence. Keirce paints, “colors & shapes with little or no regard to the entire subject until the very end of the painting process. We carry unseen struggles. TSAROS gives form to the internal life in paint. Bringing emotional and spiritual states to light are more important to me than depicting any physical likeness.

Her current series, Bigger Spirits/Square Souls, features organic forms that dance, float or slowly ebb with life. Through paint and monotype, the shapes and marks in the images recall spirits; forces that carry us through our days or challenge us mightily.
