If you don’t know the difference between half-runner and snap beans, then you probably aren’t from the South.  However, if your cashier has to ask, “Is this a cucumber or a zucchini?”…Well, that’s a statement about how few vegetables are truly being eaten these days.  I suppose that is why our produce has all those little stickers on them (and another argument for visiting the farmers’ market).  This Call is based on a whole different kind of coding system.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Twin Oaks Gallery (Art & Frame) in San Marcos, CA for the QRt Exhibit.   The participation fee is only $25, and you have complete control over how you ENTIRE portfolio is shown.  Do a little homework on this one…

anyone?

I am always amazed by how a simple ingredient can be transformed into a magnificent dish.  Root vegetables are the perfect example.  Who would of thought that something that spent most of the time it has existed under the ground could be transformed into something beautiful, warm and nutty?  I think of a luscious crock of roasted carrot soup with a hint of ginger and nutmeg.  This Call wants you to contemplate transformation.  Give it a try…

Never miss a food field trip, be it big or small.  Like anything else in life, if you miss an opportunity, sometimes you simply don’t ever get the chance again.  Perfect example, I have lots of business in California these days in regards to this blogging empire (ha), personal art shows, group shows, etc., but because I didn’t visit The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts when I DIDN’T have business in California, the opportunity is lost.  Their doors closed in 2008.  Pick the grapes when they are ripe, folks.  This next call is an opportunity in an entirely different kind of Center.  Don’t miss this one…

I love the fusion of classic dishes and modern cuisine.  Deconstructed dishes are a perfect example.  Like the caesar salad that comes with a mound of romaine, a poached egg and a sardine on crostini.  Okay, that may be a little on the fringe.  Maybe the pomegranite martini is a better example…shaken, not stirred No, I prefer classic dirty martinis with lots o’ olives.  Anyway, this next Call is a perfect opportunity to learn a new process…be it old & new to you or new & new to you.  Think about it…

STICKY SWEET

When I think of salt water taffy, I think of the mountains. Odd, eh? I suspect that salt water taffy got its start on seaside boardwalks, but it seems every small mountain town has a great little store front that lets you watch taffy being made. I know that here in Gatlinburg, there is more than one. I wonder if Blue Ridge, GA (home of this Call) has a taffy shop. Sounds like a great reason to attend the reception…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild for their Annual National Juried Show which will be exhbiited in the Richard Low Evans Gallery in Blue Ridge, GA, one of “America’s Top Art Communities.” I know that discussing art sales is like talking about religion or politics in polite company (in bad taste), but I will say it anyway… this could be a great opportunity to sell some artwork.
