JUNK

I write a whole lot of crap about food.  Most of it is just an off the cuff note about whatever is going on in my kitchen. But it is NEVER meant as a judgment about the way YOU eat. One of FB friends updated her status yesterday with a comment about how people who eat cheese, fruit and veggies cold, as opposed to room temp, have clearly given up on life and are just eating garbage.  Really?  I am sorry my cold strawberry has flagged me as a useless garbage eater.  So, I want to be clear.  No judgement from me.  Do I want you to eat creme-filled snack cakes? No.  Do I love you any less for it?  No, I’m just a little jealous.  This next Call is an for an all hung exhibit.  No judgement there either…

Check out this Call for Entries from Art via Post for a Mail Art exhibit, book and website.  There is no entry fee, and it is all hung.  If mail art doesn’t excite you, think of it as a way to work through your artist block.  Don’t miss this chance to participate…

SALTY

When I think of Canadian foods, I think maple syrup.  But, it occurred to me that I don’t have any other pre-conceived notions other than that stereotype.  So, I Google’d it.  Shockingly, an informal Facebook survey resulted in poutine being voted as Canada’s unofficial national food.  Poutine is a French Canadian dish of French fries, topped with brown gravy and cheese curds. French fries, gravy and cheese.  What more could you want.  Nevertheless, if you go to the opening for this next Call, I am out of syrup.  Investigate…

Arkansas reminds me of popcorn.  When I was about eight years old, my father was transferred to Arkansas for work for 18 weeks, and during the inclement weather (a three foot flood, 18″ of snow and 100°+ temps all during our 18 weeks in Little Rock), I would go to work with one of my father’s friends.  This friend worked at a local movie theatre as a projectionist, and I would sit in the projection booth and watch the movie through the teeny tiny viewing window with a cardboard box of leftover theatre popcorn in my lap.  Blissful.  I am doubting that this next Call will feature popcorn at the opening, but you COULD bring your own…
